Thankyou, it's the only thing that's cheering me up. The weather is terrible for this time of year. We've even got the heating on.
One could be forgiven for thinking we might have a white Christmas.

Yes it is Bruce, some of the back yard. The rain is really messing with the blooms this year though. This lot is pretty much the last to flower. All the other rhodies are done for the year.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

My tallest cactus about to flower, a bonus was the corona above it. It is around 3 1/2 metres tall

And, 2 days later when it popped, it has over 60 flower buds on it on multi branches, neat! Last time it flowered was December 2010

Cactus have amazingly beautiful blooms. It's a shame the buggers are so prickly.

I love prickly pear but got a prickle stuck on the roof of my mouth once. Took days and days before someone actually saw it and was able to remove it with a pair of tweezers.

You're suppose to pick your pricks wisely.

Isn't that advice better given to women?

Does that really have to be shared? I enjoy checking out this thread as there are nearly always great pics to be seen so imagine my disappointment when I'm assailed by a scene like that.

Life is gory enough without having to stare it in the face.   :Twocents:
