I Found this pic yesterday and it got me thinking [all three hamsters running in the wheel] :icon_smile_shock:

What is it that makes only a few among us stand out from the rest, I mean success-wise? Are you born with it? Or are you a product of your environment? Is the drive to succeed buried deep within all of us, or are only a few of us "Born to be Leaders" Is there a part of our society that oppresses people who try to excel?  Or is this just a powerful personality trait that drives people to "conquer the world". I'm just wondering, is there a common denominator in the mix, or do you think its just luck of the draw?

Oh Yea, the photo.  BTW, those beauties are his live in Girlfriends. :D

I guess you'd have to define success and then see if we all agree with it. I don't think it takes too much smarts to realize that selling pictures of nude women would be a big hit with the male population. I think any time someone capitalizes on legal addictions such as porn, tobacco products and alcohol they will make money.

No, your right. Maybe I was being Vague.

I just picked him because his story is unique. And its not about what he sells, its about sucess, and what drives us [as humans] to be sucessful.

We all define sucess in different ways. But is that because we truly believe that we are happy or our we [some of us] slackers who are envious of those who do better than us?

I wish i could be more like him ;D

Careful what you wish for. The gods might just turn you into a 70-year-old prune-faced pervert minus the hot women hanging around. If you're going to make wishes you ought ot be very specific.

It's a combination of being born at the right time with the right skills coupled with the energy, health and charisma to make it all come together.   The really successful people like Gates or Hefner are extremely focused, sleep little, and work gobs of hours even though they don't have to and seek publicity.   The less known successful people, like the CEOs of the top 500 companies, share those characteristics except for the publicity seeking.   Warren Buffett, the number two richest guy in America, is great.   He said that he was just lucky to be born in the USA with the skills to pick stocks.   Had he been born in Africa when they had to be hunters, he says he would have not survived and there would have been someone else who was the top hunter.   He insists that he will not set up some dynasty for his kids but rather will give the money back to the country because that is where it came from -- that is also why he is against the Republican plan of elimination of the inheritance tax.

It is a huge leap from us common folk to their status.   Money alone won't make the leap but it surely helps.   The most important thing to have is charisma.   That makes a great salesperson and he cannot be overpaid and rules the world.   If I had my choice, I would choose to have charisma; but unfortunately one has to be born with it not learn it.   Kim

Kim hit the nail on the head. I saw a story about Hefner's life. He worked his ass off to get where he is. He is now enjoying the fruits of his labor.

I agree with Kim too. It takes a combination of quite a few things to make one individual stand out above the throng. Personality, timing & luck are probably the main three...some people got it & some people don't. I've decided that I don't. :icon_smile_big:

Where Hefner is concerned, he dared to go where no man had gone before & the timing was almost perfect. If he had tried that 10 years earlier, he would have most certainly gone down in flames.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Success is the fruit of a lot of dilligent hard work and preparation. Most people who are self made will fail several times before getting it right. They never give up and keep coming back. I think persistence is a big part of it. They are usually willing to risk everything and trust in their abilities. They are not discouraged easily.

I'm almost positive that the girl under Hef's left arm is his wife.....
