Im probley going to ask a few more question before I decide and unload 2k on heads so thanks in advance

The only stage 6 head i would consider is the CNC Chapman which are available in 260cc and 280cc versions. The other stage 6 castings have been known to have their problems with porosity and machining issues that rerquire hundreds of $$ to correct before you even bolt them on. If you feel like gambling with your hard earned money, go for it.

I know you don't want to hear this but your best value is going to be in an E-head. I was at Norwalk Raceway Park this past w/e and got to look at what some guys were running under the hood. I'll outline two cars and let you draw your own conclusions ;

(1) 1970 gtx, 493ci, ported edelbrocks, roller cam, 13:1 compression, auto trans, dana. This car launches hard and hangs the front tires 3ft in the air. Weighs in at 3500 lbs. Best et's to date = 9.80's

(2) 1969 charger, 528ci, indy 440-1's, roller cam, 14:1 compression, auto trans, dana. Leaves hard and flat out flies down the track. Weighs in ~ 3700 lbs (according to owner). Best et's at 10.0-10.10's

So the e-headed combo has 35 less cubes but is 2 tenths faster ; the car is also lighter so this is somewhat of an advantage when doing a comparison. These motors are probably making close to the same power given the et vs weight comparison but the e-headed motor is doing it with 35 less cubes.... 9.80's in a full bodied GTX with 493 cubes is impressive by anyones standards. Both cars are naturally aspirated btw....no juice.   :icon_smile_cool:

What are the valve springs rated to out of the box? Will I need to get the guides trimed down? The money i save on them I can use to get them worked over i guess. Gakset matached and what not.

If you decide to go with the E-heads.....there won't be much work involved. The retainer to guide clearance will be fine. The springs will be more than adequate for what you're looking to do. Here's what i would have done to them:

(1) competition 3 angle valve job
(2) 28* backcut to the valves
(3) guides checked for clearance (valvestem)
(4) pushrod holes enlarged to gain clearance for the 1.6 rocker ratio
(5) port match checked and corrected if necessary

Your Comp headers will work with the E-heads and might require some strategic "dings" around a few of the sparkplugs...#2 will definately need some clearancing.

the 88 cc heads are basically put out for the guy that already has a quench dome piston and needs an open chambered head.  so if your starting from scratch i would go with the 84's. if fact ive been working a bunch of extra hours at work to buy me a set of 84cc e-heads.  i should be placing the order in 16 days  ;D.   mancini is seling the modern cylender head cnc ported e-heads now as well.  they are around 2200 dollars, but if i was giong to spend that kind of money id be buying a set of box stock heads and sending them to dwayne porter (fast68plymouth at moparts) and having him work them over.  i might be wrong but id feel like i was getting a set of heads that was set up for my engine.

:iagree: The closed chamber 84cc heads are the way to go. I had Dwayne go through mine and they were stage 1 ported, valvejob, backcut, guides checked etc...The higher levels of porting only reap dividends with cam lifts exceeding .600 so i opted for the basic level of porting seeing that my cam is .585 lift. These heads flowed just under 300cfm at .600 and 292cfm @ .550 which is pretty descent. The low and mid lift flow #'s picked up 10-15cfm across the board so it's a worthwhile upgrade, inmo. Cost for stage 1 port and prep was $400.00 USD.

I'm not sure who ports heads in the GTA and has enough experience with Edelbrocks to where i'd feel comfortable letting them grind on them. If i were you, i'd be contacting Dwayne and setting something up for a stage 1 port and prep. You could have the heads drop shipped to his shop and then have them shipped up north.

Every car is different so it's hard to say whether or not you'll have problems. How much clearance is there now with the stock heads and Comp headers ? The e-heads are slightly wider and taller than an oem head....something like 3/8 of an inch.....IIRC.

Not a big Hughes fan....guaranteed they won't be as nice as stage 1 PRH prepped heads.

Hughes have been turning a lot of people off.  Sometimes it pays in the long run to treat customers like friends no matter how dumb you think their question is.  To be fair, I should add that I have never had a problem with them myself, but I have heard so many complaints about the way they talk down to people that it's kind of a "where there's smoke..." thing to me.

CFMopar

Hey what was that site that had the heads for 1250 ron?

Oh and dwayne is moving his shop and wont be able to take work till the end of october. So I might try to find a shop to do it local.
