Whats a DMCL? :shruggy: :scratchchin: :-\

dirty mary crazy larry  old but good movie.looks like its a compass or something.

blade68

:scratchchin: looks like an old 30s custom radiator cap

dodgecharger-fan

Just guessing, but the nature of the metal makes it look like it would be a hood ornament.
With that idea in mind and the threaded base, I start to think about big old cars where the rad cap was out front -
Then the thingy on top is like a wind speed indicator like you'd find on a weather station.

I did a google for "weather vane hood ornament" and didn't come up wioth anything.

Hope tha analysis helps you get pointed in the right direction. I'll keep an eye out in my cyber travels.

Bluestar

Having not seen the movie.  If you asked me what that was, I'd say it is a radiator cap (Custom is my guess) from a hot rod roadster or from an older car that had the radiator cap on the top of the panel in from of the hood.

Combo Hood Ornament / Radiator Cap.

Edit: Dodge Charger-Fan posted at the same time as me :)

Gottcha!  I have to agree with everyone else though with the threaded bottom it has to be a hood ornament.

That one has a temp. gauge, the one in question has a sort of wind gauge/spinner in it.

bsakal

Someone has told it's called a Radiator mascot.

I've come across a Willys-Knight one that had similar wings - but not as close as the one posted above.

I found one with the wind cups from a company called Wiggler from Buffalo, NY.
It's called a Wiggler rotoscope.

Google radiator mascot and you'll find tons of sites and images. The trick will be finding the right one.

All the searches I do on these comes back to Ford Model T cars......I cannot find that exact one (and e-bay doesn't have that one, they do have others).

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

John_Kunkel

It's just an aftermarket radiator cap with a spinner in it for amusment, same mentality as the current trend of boat propellors in hitch recepticals and spinner exhaust tips, etc.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
