hi all--doug croxford from cleveland...mom and I go to a bunch of shows and have been dsac/ww members since before my 1st birthday.  i see a lot of familiar faces from mopowerstyle...thanks for having me!

I'm still looking for a 'bird rear window for the petty car (thanks random vandals.)  i'm filing the insurance paperwork this week to get repop glass unless someone knows where there's a real one.

here are some pics--reruns for the 'style folks

and as it sits now...

There's a place in Iowa (I think) that repro's the rear glass for Daytona's and I think for 'Birds as well.  A quick search of this forum might find it.
'70 Charger R/T Clone - FE5/V1W 451/727/Dana/4 wheel disc brakes/AC (Under Restification)
'70 Challenger - FM3/V1W 440/727/8.75/4 wheel disc brakes (Under Restification)
'74 Duster - FM3/V1W 225/904/7.25 Disc/Drum
'93 RAM D250 - 5.9L/A518/9.25 (Old Sacto Cop Truck)
'94 BMW 740iL

Yes, I'm a Dodge Boy.  Verstehen?

iowa glass was swallowed up by PPG.  there are places for repop glass, but it's laminated like windshields (they crack and don't shatter.)

just being picky with my driver unrestored car...

Hey pettybird!

Welcome to DC.com - although for those who haunt both 'Style and here there's not much of an intro needed...

Glad you joined up, and keep those pictures coming!  That one by the beach is calendar material.

Troy

I was at Gunslinger talking to you and your mom last weekend at the Nationals. Welcome to the site!

Sorry, I can't help with windows - I'm a wing car novice.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Wouldn't make sense to install the laminated one until you find a tempered one ? This way you wont be wearing a diaper the next time you drive your Superbird ?

moparstuart

welcome aboard dougy  will keep my ears open for the glass
we used iowa ( or independent glass here at the yard ) had great luck
now i have to call an 800 # to texas to get PPG  what a nightmare

Welcome aboard.
I remember seeing the story about your vandalism a while back when someone posted a link. That sucks that you're still searching for glass. I'm glad nothing worse happened, though. :)

Thanks for sharing the cool pics.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I got my Daytona (Clone) rear glass from Iowa glass, but I believe they got it from:

http://www.oemglass.net/index.html

When I spoke to OEM on the phone a few years ago they said they had them for Daytonas and ' Birds...

are you trying to get me in trouble???

funny if you look at the pic she's not the only one who's got the camera phone out...

hi to everyone else--i'm in cleveland if anyone local needs tech assistance

ok glass can be had anywhere.  I found no less than six sources when I did my research.  ECS Automotive has the glass DATE CODED (and is the ONLY company licensed to do so, and anyone who sells you date coded glass, including OEM,  sends it there first, so think about shipping there) and that's who I have the quote through.  They even have the stuff in stock.  I was looking for an original to bang the insurance company over the head with--if I found a real glass, but had submitted the quote, then went back and asked for another, what, $500?  it would have never happened.  Again, due to not finding the original at this time, I'm ordering from ECS.  I'll do the install myself to cover the deductible (i'm submitting the labor bill, too) and i'm changing out the headliner and vinyl top at the same time.  there's a little rust under the top, so that'll all be worked out at the same time.

I have tons of pics, and have a pile of them posted over at the DSAC weboard on 'style.  I can run links to there if anyone gets lost...

Welcome Doug, also glad to have you aboard. I've met you and your Mother at a few shows and always enjoy talking with you both. I'm fairly new to the site as well but do enjoy communicating with all the other enthusiasts that enjoy these great cars. As I'm sure you can tell there are many of our friends from the clubs on here so it really makes it nice to keep in touch more. :2thumbs:

Welcome Doug.

One of these days I hope to see that daytona of yours rolling into a show. Not that its difficult to look over your family's Superbirds, but call me fickle, but the Daytona is much nicer looking. To me anyways.

learical1

You might want to be prepared for a little 'bondo' repair when you replace the vinyl roof.  My old limelite Superbird, and my brother's torred 'bird both had serious break-up and 'chunking' of the original bondo around the back window.  Wasn't noticeable until the vinyl roof was removed.  Never removed the vinyl roof off of either of the lemon twist 'birds, so I never saw a problem with them.  Of course, several years in the Arizona sun might have something to do with the break-up.

I could have swore Superbirds were built at a Chrysler assembly plant.. The specialty parts were constructed over at Creative, but put together by Chrysler employees.... But, you are correct in that the finish to those areas didn't get a lot of attention....

In my opinion , no other mopar body has anywhere near the  sculpted lines of the charger ! Almost all of the other body's where flat sided . Don't get me wrong , love them all , just the charger is by far the most best looking car ever built by Chrysler

we did the top on the other 'bird a couple years ago, and it was indeed a nightmare of bondotastic proportions.  it took me hours to wire wheel and scotchbrite disc it all out.  chrysler did the top work at lynch, as far as adding the filler and plug.  they welded them in and put plastisol (sp?) on before the car was painted.  plastisol bakes down during the curing process.  it also sinks after a couple decades...

MOST of the work was done at lynch, including the installation of the hoods, fenders, plugs, trunk lid travel limiters, wing washers, etc.  I can't remember if creative or clearpointe final did the nose installs, painted the chin spoilers, installed the wing and a pillar moldings and other stupid stuff.  i don't know WHY i can't remember, but I must be tired...
