"On a very cold and windy Tuesday, November 24, 1970 at the Talladega Superspeedway, Bobby Isaac drove the #71 K & K Insurance Dodge Charger Daytona to a new closed course lap record of 201.104 MPH, breaking the record set by the #88 Chrysler Engineering Daytona just eight months earlier".

A class act, yes, but your description better fits David Pearson.  As big of a Petty fan as I am, I lean towards Pearson as greatest NASCAR driver ever.

Ghoste

Except of course, that Pearson got plenty of credit.  I'm not trying to start an argument though because they were both great.  I have to agree with Larry personally in this case.  Interestingly, Pearson was probably Bobby's closest friend and I'll bet that both would say about the other the very things we are saying about them here.

I guess I was using Petty/Earnhardt as a barometer of fame, but yes Isaac is one of the very much forgotten Grand National champions.
