Rumor here is that he will now trade for Cassell.

WE know what to do with those high 1st rd picks.

Not gonna happen.  :Twocents:

Well I wasn't completely wrong.  Lamar Hunt's kid Clark has a lot of his old man's values.  One of those was to stockpile draft picks along the way so I didn't think Clark would give up much.

And he didn't...a 2nd rounder for a franchised QB.  Someone finally got the better of a Pats deal.

You watch, Pioli will get a 2nd round pick back before it's over.  ;)

Yeah, I tell you that the Cassell will be going top KC for a high draft pick you tell me it's not going to happen. Then he gets traded to KC for a high 2nd rd pick and you tell me you're not completely wrong?

Ha!  :smilielol:

What part exactly were you right about?

All I know is we got the better end of the deal........... :nana:

Yeah, the Pats are stuck with Toim Brady.

:pity:

The high 1st round draft picks you said we were gonna give up.  That's the part I disagreed with.

The fact KC gave up a high 2nd that's almost a 1st but by no means did they give this years 1st and or next years 1st.  Which is what you were predicting.  That didn't happen.

If you want me to eat crow for saying it wouldn't happen at all dish it up.  I was wrong about that.  I wouldn't have brought your thread up if I didn't concede it.  And for the 34th pick in the draft for a quality QB and a LB to mentor the young team, I don't mind being wrong at all.

I think you should worry more about keeping Cassell healthy. That O-line sucks.

I'll take my chances with the guy that's won 3 Super Bowls.

472 R/T SE

Cassel has to be breathing a sigh of relief getting away from that over rated Pats line.  :D
Leading the league in getting your QB sacked isn't something to be proud of.

But to keep in line with the OP post, the D line most definitely sucks.

So how sure are you KC fans that Cassell isn't a flash in the pan? I mean a one hit wonder? There have been QB's in the past that did okay when filling in for one year, but then flopped once they became the "man" in another town. I think he has the tools, and the smarts. But there was no pressure on him in NE. When Brady went down they were thinking maybe a 6-10 record right? So anything more than that was cake. He played decent, not over his head, but he didn't even have as good of a completion percentage as Thigpen did. And that was with Welker and Moss to throw too, so how is he going to do in KC? Especially if Tony leaves and he doesn't have a go to man?

I do know something that would make all KC fans happy is if Cutler and the Broncos don't mend their problems and he winds up playing for a different team.

The70RT

I guess we won't know till it happens. It sure can't get much worse. Hopefully we get a few good draft picks too since Petersen is gone.

You might want to check those numbers. Cassell threw much more often, the running game was not that good, and he still manage to put up a significantly better completion % than Thigpen.

Rk    Name/Team    Comp    Att    Pct    Yds    Yds/Att    TD    INT     Sacked Yds    RTG
1    Matt Cassel, NE    327    516    63.4    3693    7.16    21    11    47    219    89.4

I think that Cassell was playing under some pressure. Hell, everyone wanted the Pats to go out and get a QB the next day. I think the Pats were going to stick with him but the fans were not going to stand for one bad performance after another.

Can he do it as a starter? We'll find out. There was plenty of interest in him from other teams so I think that many teams think he can do it.

472 R/T SE

Actually the rumor I heard was there wasn't that much interest in him until the other teams found out KC was dealing.  Supposedly BB already gave his word to SP so all the other talk of other teams offering more didn't matter.  BB & NE don't want to pay high draft picks either from what I hear.

And a second round pick for a quality (we'll see) QB & over the hill LB who can teach the youngin's is a pretty safe bet.  :Twocents:  Cassel may be a flash in the pan but for a 2nd I think it's OK.  Besides, we still have Thigpen & Brokie.  IMO they should have released Brokie today instead of Quinn Gray.

Not counting Thigpen's first game and a couple blow outs the Chefs were actually in several of their games after Thigpen switched to the spread offense.  The Charger losses were by a combined 2 points.
The defense, or lack thereof, continuously let them down.

If they can get the defense even remotely playing well I think a .500 season isn't out of the question.  The good part about the D is Goonther is gone.

nh_mopar_fan

Locally, DET and MINN were mentioned as teams that were interested.

You're right about the high draft picks. The Pats have no interest in paying the guaranteed money that comes with those picks.

Chiefs trade Gonzalez to Atlanta
By The Kansas City Star

Tight end Tony Gonzalez, a 10-time Pro Bowler and fan favorite in Kansas City, has been traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round selection in the 2010 draft.
"On behalf of my family and the Chiefs, I want to thank Tony for his time in Kansas City," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said. "Over the last 12 seasons, Tony has been one of the finest players in Chiefs history, and he will always be remembered as a member of the Chiefs. His play on the field speaks for itself – he holds almost every major NFL record for tight ends, and he is arguably the best to ever play his position. We wish him the best in Atlanta."

Gonzalez did not show up for last weekend's minicamp at Arrowhead Stadium and has expressed interest in being traded several times since last season.

Still can't win a game.  :brickwall:

At least the Raiders won.

Someone had to get lucky  ::)

Yes the Raiders have a 450 pound Retard for a quarterback who isn't accurate enough to hit the side of a barn AND WE STILL WON!!!!!  :shruggy: Gonna be a long season if Ja BUST remains quarterback.  :brickwall:

You know Oakland could win the AFC west & the Chefs not win a game this year.

But old crazy Al will still be your team's owner.  :hah:
