Below, I just typed exactly what I saw (on page 142) in Chuck Senatore's "Big-Block Mopar Performance" book (First Edition, 1999) for a track 440:
Block: any 440 block will work, pre-1975 is better Bore: 0.060" over is okay in early block Crank: stock steel, race prepped Rods: stock okay, aftermarket steel or aluminum okay Pistons: lightweight forged only, 12:1+ preferred Rings: moly, file fit w/low tension oil rings Bearings: all tri-metal, mains fully grooved, aluminum rods use babbit Cam: solid or roller Cam Drive: chain okay, gear or belt better Oil Pump: high volume, but ext. if over 7,000 rpm Oil Pan: largest pan possible, 1/2" pickup Heads: ported stock iron okay, aluminum better Valvetrain: adjustable, roller preferred Intake: single plane Carburetor: 850-1,050 cfm
This track version of the 440 with a 0.640" Ultradyne solid lifter cam (or Mopar 0.590" or 0.620"), more porting on the stock heads, 12.5:1 compression light pistons, steel rods, and a single-plane intake should go 10.80-11.30 ET seconds in B/E body and mid-10's in an A-body. With the addition of some of the smaller aluminum heads, such as Mopar Stage 6, Indy SR or Brodix B-1 BS, expect about four to six tenths of a second improvement. An 8" converter is needed for the track; a 10" for the street.
