I hope someone can help me with this.. I just hooked up my tail lights and when I turn the lights on my brake lights are on and they wont go off.  When I press on the brake pedal the lights just dim slightly.. The worst thing is that when I press on the brakes the doime light comes on and then it goes off when I let off the pedal.. Anyone have any idea where to start.. thanks Savage

they are all somehow related

dome light and brakes use same fuse source. second from bottom to top on left hand side.

turning signal is diff, is feeded by a dif source, on accesories fuse line ( brakes and dome is on batt side ). HOWEVER they share same wires than brakes.

mmmm... have to think about.

Thanks Nacho... I will check the fuses and re-check the wiring in the rear..  This is the first time the dome light has even come on since I bought the car.. I needed to replace the back left tail light so I did have to splice the new wires with the old ones.  You dont think it could be a bad `ground or a bad bulb do you?  I am also not getting anything from the side marker lights or the license plate light?

Savage6

Looks like it was a bad fuse.. brake lights work good.  The dome light stays on and wont turn off so I just took the bulb out.. if anyone knows why it is staying on please give me a heads up.  everything else seems to work ok

sidemarkers and license plate are same signal than runnin/parking lights and all are tied to same fuse. As far I rmemeber that fuse also drives the glovebox, map light.

lights switch does have 2 positive inputs and is tied to two fuses.

one input is directly from batt and controls JUST headlights

second input feeds parking and cluster, and is fused

then the cluster source output runs to the second fuse, JUST to cluster lights, but as stated second fuse is linked to an OUTPUT from swicth, and not to the INPUT

we have a 3rd gen charsger board where we are compilating some tech archives. you'll find some diagrams there:

and of course you are welcomed there.

that kind of "gremmlins" are hard to locate from the distance... will need lot of patiente.

My '74 Satellite developed the same problem. In mine, it finally traced to a trunk light wire that had chafed and shorted to the hinge. Every time I hit the brakes, the dome light came on but the brake lights didn't.

Savage6

That sounds like it could be the problem.. I will double check the wires in the trunk.. You dont remember which one it was do you?  I think my black wire might be bad... thanks again
