Hi Tim saw this on the Australia mopar site feature torque back article on wingcars. They should do a story on your car :Twocents:
THE NEW TORQUEBACK

Issue 11, Dec. 2011 - March 2012
Out Now.

The Winged Warriors:
1969 Dodge Charger Daytona
1970 Plymouth Roadrunner SuperBird

Issue 11 of the 'new' Torqueback is a 32 pager covering "the winged warriors" – the Daytona and the SuperBird.

There is an essay on the history of the SuperBird and Daytona and its origins in Nascar, a summary of those that have made their way here to Australia, an illustrated explanation of aerodynamics, a reproduced article from the US magazine "Performance", a biography of Richard Petty, and another regular installment of our Full Boar cartoon strip.

There is also some word from the prez regarding All Chrysler Day and our new secretary Di Haswell writes her first secretary's report. Not to mention Buy. It does feel good seeing it sitting here freshly shot in the boothe. It's kind of a surreal feeling, maybe more so for others that have seen the car here and there over the years. There are so many paths this Daytona could have gone down. It could have been crushed 36 years ago after the accident, but it wasn't. Hats off to Mike McGuire and Ernie P. yet again!

Plenty more photos to come..

Saw the car today with the body painted and the front guards hung roughly, awesome! I may be repeating myself here with words and photos but I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Hemigeno's thread can be seen bound as a reference in one of the photos (circled in red). If your sitting home this evening, I hope this makes it a little more interesting for you.

Just a quick question,What was the base and clear used? What a top notch job.I would hate to guess how many hours went into that one.

QuoteJust a quick question,What was the base and clear used? What a top notch job.I would hate to guess how many hours went into that one.

The paint that was used is called Lesonal, it's a cheaper brand of paint than what the painter usually uses but the colour match was 99% to the sample taken from the door jamb and we had already sprayed the underside/cabin with it. The painter spoke with his rep/paint store and a couple of other painters and heard good things so he was happy to use it, you can see the end result...
Three coats of base and three coats of clear, it took around 90 hours in the shop with the car having arrived in high fill putty (there was a few charity hours in there also) . The Daytona was very straight and did not need a great deal before it was shot, the body men did an exceptional job at their end. The painter also did a beautiful job and I would highly recommend both parties involved.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement!

Enjoy, Tim.

Lesonal is good paint. Its an Akzo-Nobel product. It is the cheaper line with Sikkens being the Flagship. We use Sikkens water bourne at My shop.

Tim, is the paint water or regular solvent base?
