THE LAW IS THE LAW
This is one of the better e-mails I have received in a long time! I hope this makes its way around the USA several times over!!!!!

So Be It!

THE LAW IS THE LAW

So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money,

then, so be it.

And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation,

then, so be it.

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the schools, on which they deem their authority,

then so be it.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American Publics' best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?

Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot Post His Commandments in Government buildings,

I don't believe the Government and it's employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter.

After all, it's just another day.

I'd like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it's just another day.

I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all it's just another day.

I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter.

It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct."

In fact....

I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God...) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day....

What do you all think????

If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the minority opinions and begin, once again, to represent the 'majority' of ALL of the American people.

SO BE IT..........

Please Dear Lord,

Give us the help needed to keep you in our country!

Vainglory, Esq.

Remember that the Constitution has BOTH free exercise AND non-establishment clauses.  You know, that thing called the Constitution?  Oh, you haven't heard of it.  I see.

Wouldn't want the ACTUAL law to get in the way of your interpretation of you you personally think the law is, now would we?

emily

Some of us seem to forget that "in god we trust" and "one nation under god" were only added to our money and the pledge of allegiance in 1954, as a result of the cold war.   It was never a part of our constitution or the bill of rights.   What is a part of our written governmental basis   (First Amendment) is that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."     These god references by the government clearly do that.   This country was founded as a place of freedom for everyone, regardless of their race, creed, or color, to be free to practice or not to practice their beliefs or lack of beliefs without persecution or criticism.

Those people "in the minority" as this email you posted might actually be those with the best interest of us all, the ones supporting the original founding ideals and the law which protects us.

You can pray anywhere, anytime you want to.   The First Amendment protects your right to practice your chosen religion.   But there are many people in this country that are not christian.   And to impose the christian god or any other gods on them by way of governmental endorsement is wrong in my opinion, and in the opinion of the founders of our country.

We all deserve personal freedom.   Our government should be neutral with respect to religion and allow all faiths and people without faith to live in peace here.

If one is interested in living in a theocracy, then looking at life Iran or Israel might be in order.

Just my 2 cents.

bull

That's all fine and dandy but the gist of this email asks why the same government that created these rules doesn't abide by them. Your rebuttal seems to have camped itself on the subject of the last two sentences.

Charger_Fan

The pledge of allegiance wasn't around before 1954? I didn't know that. :ahum:
While I agree that prayer in public schools isn't called for (private schools are a different matter), the pledge of allegiance is definitely something that should be continued...and people who are offended by a GOD word stuck in there, should worry about other things.

I do agree with Emily's statement that the government should be neutral in regards to religion...it's just not something the government should be involved in. I'm not a religious person & could care less what religion an individual chooses to believe in, as long as they don't try to force everyone around them into the same beliefs.

It would be pretty funny to see the reactions of government employees if they were told they had to work on all religious holidays!

Vain, I understand that your constitution statement was from past history with discussions of this nature, but we don't need to make it a flame war so early in the thread, do we? :icon_smile_tongue:

My  :Twocents::  Never been a believer, but never had a problem with people's beliefs either.  As long as it isn't shoved down my throat it is fine by me.  How can it really offend people that much on the money or in the pledge?  Don't they have better things to worry about like all the homeless and starving in this country?  ::)

Looks like Bull is the only one paying attention here. It's called hypocrisy. They keep God around for convenience sake and throw Him out for...convenience sake. Doesn't sound very JUST to me...but then, maybe I'm missing something here...enlighten me.

HalfastAMX, thanks for posting this...unfortunately very few will get the REAL point, it'll be turned into a consistution vs religion argument, but at least a few of us understand what's really going on here. Amen bro...

I disagree

It doesn't say (in Mohamad we trust) or (in jesus we trust). It sez (In God we Trust) No mention of the christian religon or any other. You are free to worship anyone or anything in this country or none at all. Any endoresment that you read into it by our government is misguided. The point is the folks in the fifties who changed the wording were trying to prove that their or any government is not the ultimate authority in an act of humbleness.
Overseas entire countries were being told to worship men. Hitler, Po Pot, Stalin to name a few. We felt we had to set ourselves from the growing iron curtin and even out of control socialist governments in western europe that tax the bread winners 80% to pay for the non working dregs of society.
These governments want to be the keepers of their people with total control of their lives financially and every other aspect.
It's not for me. Your allowed to protest these words and even try to get them repealed from our documents and pledge but that would be more baby steps in the quest to change the American way of life and be more socialist.
Remember..
These are the same folks that would be offended by your Chargers and 'CUDA/Challengers because they are gas hogs ect.

my .02 cents

Quote"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Specifically:

QuoteCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

Are there other, more important things to worry about?  Yes...certainly.

But, the words stand as they are written.  The ten commandments have no place in matters of law.  Under God has no place in the pledge (it wasn't there until 1954).  "In God We Trust" has no place on our currency (the fact that its even there smacks of blasphemy to me).

Why? they like to pass that collection plate around

*EDIT TO ADD* BTW: I’m an Atheist, and I for one could give a flying fu*k about the word God being in the pledge, money, walls, bathroom, books, whatever.... It just doesn't bother me one bit. I just don't understand why, of all the crap going on in peoples life’s, work, world people would give a rat’s ass.

If anything it aggravates me more that a proclaimed "Atheist" makes moves for this stuff. It makes me look bad and makes people ask me why I "hate god" because I say I’m an atheist. So what. I believe in science, some people believe in a god. It makes them do the right thing and feel better about themselves to believe in a higher power then so be it. No skin off my teeth. Do I care that our president believes in god? No do I care there is a church on every corner? No, why doesn't it bother me, I simply have better things to care about.

As for the pledge. If a kid wants to say "one nation under god" they should be allowed to, if they don't want to say it, so be it... My oldest daughter believes in God. Do I care? No, she's 13 and she has the right to believe in God if she wants.

Respect the people, if not their religion. Bottom line. Telling people what they can and can't think is the worse thing to do. Just deal with it.

End rant

I'm a gov't employee and I do work on the only religious holiday [ christmas ]
The majority of gov't holidays- presidents day, martin luther king day, labor day, independence day, veterans day[armistice day], new years day, columbus day, thanksgiving, memorial day - have nothing to do with religion - but are celebrations of significant people or events in this country's history.

Nonetheless I get Double-time for each one worked !
It depends on local custom also- In New york / Long Island  we would get school days off for Rosh Hassanah, and Yom Kippur due to the large Jewish population....

Well Shakey, glad you asked...I hoped that someone would. I suggest that ANYONE who posts anything that is stated as fact should have some real world data to back up their claim...otherwise an "IMO" disclaimer is somewhat necesarry. So, what do I think he should have researched? Well, NON-PROFIT organizations of many kinds do not pay taxes (not only churches)...obviously he either isn't aware of that, or chooses to single out churches as evil or lawless...actually not sure of his thinking here. Either way, he's wrong. If you want to attack a group for not paying taxes, I would think that the billions dollar industry of Indian Gaming would be a better target, as they nare obviously NOT a Non-profit organization. Just my .02 ¢

LowPro, I agree he can speak his mind, but I feel he took this as an opportunity to bash religion/churches as opposed to adding something contructive. Please reread his post...

It's a well known fact that Samaritans Purse, Christian Childrens Fund, The Salvation Army, Christian Aid, etc... provide more needed medicinal supplies, more clothing and blankets, more shelter services and feed more poverty stricken and hungry people than ANY other groups around the globe. In fact, many of the kitchens that cooked meals and the supplies that were provided after the hurricaines (if not most) were provided by Christian faith based organizations. Many think it's the Red Cross, but that's not the case very often. You make religious and faith based organizations pay taxes on donated funds and you lose this type of relief throughout the country and all over the world....and politicians and government know it.
