I have a friend that says he has a 1986 New Yorker that talks to him and it has a 4 cylinder with a turbo on it. He called me and wants to sell it. I'm not interested in the car myself and told him that, but i didn't know that there were any New Yorkers that had the 4 cylinder turbo. Is this something rare that maybe I should go look at?

I wouldn't say rare.  I had one with close to 300k miles on it with a tranny rebuild the only piece replaced before I bought it, drove it for 3 years.  Great little rig.

They get up and go and got around great on ice, snow packed roads.

Yup. I owned a handful.

They had a bit of an issue with the headgaskets on those. I replaced one of all but one of the cars I owned.  eek

The auto tranny with the turbo was very out of synch as well.

The turbo would kick in but the tranny was still a block behind. Made for some interesting stop and go starts.

Some serious turbo wind-up noise too. Moved right out though.

My dad used to have one. It was a 87? New Yorker 2.6 mitsubishi 4 cyl Mink Brown pearl coat paint and leather interior It talked and us kids thought it was the greatest!

It was a great car until the local dealership fiddled with the carb one time, it never ran good again after that . Dad traded it in on a new Dynasty.

How could I forget that.  My father in law used to laugh like crazy.

If it's not something rare I'm going to pass it by. I did look at it and it is a nice looking car. 150K miles if I remember right but I have too many toys now for another run of the mill car.

Thanks for the info.  cheers
