Those pictures still make the rounds... yesnod

The "Camper Special" Superbird pictures were taken in the early 1980s.  I had seen the Superbird several times on I-10... always going the other way.  Decided to chase him down that day... he was cruising at about 80 mph, and the 6 Cyl GMC pickup that I was driving would only do about 85 flat out AFTER I got it turned around... it took a long time to catch him!  eek  lol

BTW, I believe that I ran across another picture of the car that I have never posted before... a closeup of the roll-up door.  Maybe I'll scan it in this weekend if I get a chance.

Awesome. Any more of the Dan Mays Daytona? I like the different look of it. The handicap S/B was his daily driver from what I read years ago and he kept his chair in the rear half of the car. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but thats what I read on cars in barns web site w/short letter attached to it.
I'm off the rest of this week from work and decided to hit the internet obviously and do some diggin' of old mopars.
My next wing car clone is in process.  Cheesy

Mark

Edit: that garage full of mopars/wing cars is very exciting to se as well.... scratchchin

The car was owned by Rich M. from Houston who had it modified so he could ride in his favorite car of all... a Superbird!  At the time that he had the car modified in the 1970s, there were few if any clone wing cars... and the real ones were pretty cheap.  The car was highly modified, but I have heard rumors the current owner is restoring it back to original... not sure if true or not.

The owner was confined to a wheel chair, and would be rolled into the added structure when the roll-up door was raised and the split bumper allowed a ramp to be pulled out... I never saw it work though.  Also notice the viewing window at the front of the structure.

The garage full is part of Dan Mays' collection... the Daytona is probably Del Fisher's car, but I am not sure at the moment.

The owner had to have a driver for the car, he did not drive it himself at the time I stopped the car.  I did not know it was on Cars In Barns... I will go have a look.

I have a letter around here somewhere about the handicap Bird, that is from around 1985-86 and in it the owner of the car is asking my dad if he knows where he can get a rear window plug for a Superbird, so that he can return  the handicap Bird back to a regular Bird.

The white HEMI Daytona doesn't have a vinyl top on it, as I'm looking at the picture right now. Its a picture my dad shot in 1979.

Here is Del's Daytona in the 1980s...

That car has always been a favorite of mine. Wasn't it for sale a while ago on eBay?
Thanks for the extra info. guys on the cars I found.

Mark

Before Del sold the Daytona, the vinyl top was removed and the car repainted.  Here it is after the repaint...

I did not see it on eBay, but  shruggy
