Vintage pictures of the "Star Daytona"

A while back, there was a thread about a Superbird slot car which had a red-white-blue striped paint scheme.  There was a Daytona that was actually painted up with that same scheme back in the day, which is now owned by the gentleman that sold me one of my cars.

He had contacted the original owners of the car, who provided a few pictures of the car when it was fairly new, along with some other shots back when it had the "Star" paint job.  Dave was given permission to share these pictures, and he told me some time back that I could post them here (just haven't had time).

Anyway, hope you guys get a kick out of the vintage hair-do's, clothes and car pics!

These first three are from when the car was pretty new

Here is the slot car used as the paint pattern, along with three of the same Daytona's vintage scheme it wore in the mid/late '70s (Magnumcharger gets an assist with some of the color enhancements):

Is this the car that was sold in Greenfield Indiana Gene?

I can see if maybe Dave Jones has any more pictures of the car from when he had it. Even though he didn't have it for that long right?

We had the wild hair but not the platform shoes. We all wore dingo boots and bell bottom jeans. The best part was buying all of those musclecars for practically nothing and driving the bejesus out of them. Then we just threw them away and bought more. My brother and I went through a ton of musclecars between '72 and '78. We had one friend that would buy every 68 and 69 Charger that he could find. Then the city made him get rid of them so he had them all crushed. What a waste. He must have had 30 or 40 Chargers, maybe more.

My brother had a fro. I just had the wild hair like my hero Jungle Jim Lieberman. He was the reason that I bought the funny car to begin with.
I was 18 years old and easily influenced..

Danny,

Yep, that's the one.  If Dave Jones has any pictures of the car from when he had it, we'd all love to see them I'm sure.

Glad you guys are getting a kick out of these - I thought they were awesome pics.

Thats probably the most weight I've seen one of those wings hold up without even a hint of deflection....gotta be over 200lbs
Thanks for the pics Geno!

Notice the wing isn't sagging at all in that picture, but the driver's side exhaust tip sure looks out of place. Did they step on it to get up there? JK.
