The Dirty Mary Crazy Larry 1969 Charger

These are the pics that modelmaker has been trying to post.  He asked me to resize them and get them up as he was having a trying time with it.  Thes are not my pics so you will have to direct any questions to him.  Any descriptions I have are the ones he provided me with.  I don't know any more about the car beyond that (but I'd like to Bert  ;) ;) ;) ;))

Every story need a beginning so here is the start for this one.  The first two pics are the 73 Mach 1 he sold to get the cash to buy the Charger.  He sold the Mustang to the studio motor pool and they subsequently destroyed in another flick.

1BAD68

awesome! looks like they were filming "the streets of San Francisco"

Ghoste

As a matter of fact, that is exactly what he said they were filming.

Here is his Dirty Mary Crazy Larry poster hanging happily behind the Christmas tree.

Ghoste

And now, the car.

This first pic is our hero shortly after buying the car.  The next one, also right after he got it is a little more of the car.  It still has the stripe on it and the left fender was pulled out enough for him to be able to drive it but it was still damaged.  The damage was created by backing a tow truck into the fender about three times but the damage was different on both cars.

Ghoste

And finally, the car after he had the fender repaired and the car repainted but before he put the stripes back on.  Not long after these pics were taken, fate intervened in the form of an unfortunate accident and a significant piece of Mopar cinematic history was laid to rest.  :'(

Thats a bummer that this car is gone forever.
Does he have the vin#? Maybe he kept the title if he scrapped the car.

Ghoste

:scratchchin:  That would be an interesting item wouldn't it?  Bert also mentioned a couple of other pics that he can't find at the moment but he is looking for them.  In the meantime, I think I'll go watch it again too.  :icon_smile_big:

So what's the rest of the story? The chick wreck it or something? :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:

She made him sell it.   :shruggy:

The car was totalled out and that's all I know really.

:2thumbs: Very interesting, the locations all look familier too...  :scratchchin:

Ghoste

They should, isn't that all just a Sunday afternoon drive away from you?

Cool story. Wonder if he has info on who hauled the car away. I know that would be a long shot if it led to any more information.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Along with the aftermarket door mirrors, I see headrests in the later pics. If this is really the surviving car, must have been the headrest car from the movie (where you can see it had them originally but they had been taken out). Unless Bert or someone changed the seats.

Hi Guys thanks for getting these posted. here are the details, I owned a 68 charger orange with black top, saw the movi wanted a 69.  soon to be wife aka charger killer talked me into buying a 72 firebird i did, didn;t like it, traded it for a 73 Mach 1. I was working on the TV show the streets of san francisco, waiting for another scene to be set up i was looking through the trade papers the studios get to get cars and props from other studios inventory. I spotted the picture of the charger and knew what it was and asked our property supervisor for help in trying to get it. he did  I sold my mach 1 for some fast cash and i didn't have to go get ithe charger, it came to me on a flatbed along with 2 black & whites used as SFPD patrol cruisers. The damage was not anywhere close to what i thought it was. it started up and rolled off the deck and she was mine. in the trunk i found  a bag with the headrests no spare tire, 2 jacks, a chain, the 2 black mirrors, a blue denim levi shirt, 1 driving glove and a bunch of tailight bulbs and some cable. i took it home after stopping to wash it and the wife aka charger killer called me an IDIOT for buying a damaged car, she turned out to be the idiot. the mirror on the car was broken  . I had the body work done on it and stripped down and repainted but had to wait awhile before the stripe could be done the striping guy said to let the paint cure first before he would do it. the charger killer needed the car so she drops me off at work picks me up at the end of my daywith her dad NO CHARGER !!!, you guessed it, she wrecked it actually, her 13 year old sister did, she let her drive on a side street and ended up on the on ramp of the freeway freaked out and took out the guard rail at least thats WHAT they say they hit. this took the cake as we were having problems and cheated, got caught, had been siphononing off the bank account and keeping the bill money and hiding late notices. very bad time for me and i was fed up and let the car go for nothing just to save the hassels.  the mirrors i put back  on when we towed a trailer to lake tahoe and took the passenger side one off right after that. the Mach 1 went to a good home and was seen in  a few tv shows later that year, i would like to have that car back as well. but i kick myself HARD for what i did 30 years ago back then these cars were a dime a dozen and how i wish i would have held onto it even in the wrecked condition.

Blade_1

I saw the movie in '73 or '74, and that was the reason my first car was a Charger ('68 R/T AT). Bought it in '76 for $600, with 71k on it.

What I wouldn't give to have it back...  :'(

hemi-hampton

I remember seeing the Movie at the drive-in way back around 1974. I was only 10 but my Dad was a Hot Rodder so I was familiar with the Musclecars from a early Age. That's a Very cool story. Bummer you don't still have that car now  :'( Your Girlfriend sounds like mine. LEON.

That's a shame Bert..I feel for you. Do you know what happened to the car after you sold it? Do you have the VIN by chance? You would be doing the Charger world a favor if you could dig that out...maybe the car is still around and lost it's history....stranger things have happened.... :2thumbs:

Thanks for sharing your story....many people have wondered where the car went over the years.
