When '69s came out of the factory and went to Creative Industries, did they have their normal vin tags and fender tags? If so, what happened to the old tags when the XX ones were put on? They probally got thrown out? :shruggy: :popcrn:

 :iagree:

Some original cars still have the "snip-strip" under the fender tags from the assembly line (one of mine does). All the (normal) optional equipment had to be put on at the plant - power windows, radio's etc.

Yup, that's the case.

As far as I know, there is only one example of a true Charger R/T that was "converted" to a Daytona - that being 287970.  That particular car retained its original Fender Tag (which still reads XS29L9B to this day) after the conversion, however the VIN tag on the dashboard was changed to read XX29.  The rivits that they used on the VIN tag are different from original rivets, however the tag itself is factory-issue.

All the other Daytonas were purpose-built as Daytonas, with XX29 designation from the start.

I found the alum strip with 1 A paint inspectors tag.But Ive heard of the other tag that got trimmed down as car went down the line

I saw the remnants under the f-tag and screw. When I yanked out the battery - there was the rest of it! I had an L.A. built car once that still had 3-4" sticking out.
Why does this stuff excite us? The rest of the world must think we are sick.....To H#@L with 'em!   :icon_smile_big:

I guess those odd details are unique to certain cars .My daytona had factory deleted seat buttons on the backseat no holder for button strings nothing.Holes never drilled for the plastic retainer for vacuum lines.Finger prints in the seam sealer on a pillars SAE XX29 engraved into the headlight doors.Poor mask off on tail panel area etc Dave Patik pointed more things when he seen it.Car was a 606 Built on a Fri explains alot :Twocents:

Even going back to the 500's I can't think of but a few exceptions to the rule. There are 4 cars that have XS on the dash and everywhere else on the car that I'm aware of. Of those however all do have the right SON so we know they are legit 500's. Oddly enough though none of them have A11 on the tag though. Makes ya wonder what all went on back then.

Daytona wise though the only car I can think of that doesn't follow the plan is the car Gene mentioned, and that car is definitely something to look at. I think we drooled over it for about 4 hours and it was not nearly long enough.

The 287970 which is out of known daytona number sequence. Is a pretty significant car.Known as the Dale reeker car

If you want to get all technical about it though its not the first Daytona off the line. There is a Daytona with a lower VIN. And just because it has the lowest VIN doesn't mean it was the first one that they converted at Creative Industries. Just my .02 on the whole thing.

287970 still exists, and might be going in for a restoration soon.  It has what can best be explained as some prototype features found on no other Daytona - and was almost certainly used by Creative to mock up the nosecone.  Out of any of 'em, 287970 can legitimately lay claim as both the first, and the lowest VIN Daytona.  There is some pretty convincing photographic evidence of that too, BTW.

Wait till you see the stuff in 414619's nose  :o

Ghoste

It's a good question Cody but I can't see Creative changing them for two reasons.  One, the fender tag was mainly just an assembly line piece.  It was a quickie for inspectors to look at and make sure a car was correct without having to decipher build sheets which guys may have been looking at anyway.  It was also useful as far as warranty work but for the most part no one at the dealership level would have ever cared whether a car was XX or WM just that it had the correct paint code or brake code or whatever.
Second, I  am pretty sure the dash vin was legally required to be installed by the mfg not an aftermarket conversion center.  That's part of the reason for the special rivets holding it on.
These are only guesses though, not verified fact.

thinking about this some more , must of had XX as the broadcast sheets were XX , & all ready stuffed behind the rear seat back :scratchchin:

I'm looking forward to getting a chance to actually see what is in the nose of that car. Counting down the days until the end of the month.
