For those of you interested in the current state of the market, Mecum is reporting they sold the Jay Cox Daytona at 195k at their Florida auction.    It's a 440, 4-speed,  V2, black interior with a white stripe.  It was a Roger Gibson restored car and still very nice.

Good to see prices are at least decent! I think Roger restored only around half of that car (left or right side? LOL). I think he did either the body and paint or just the mechanical aspect. Either way a nice car indeed.

I recall seeing that car at the nats XX29L9B386561 it was set up like a automatic but had the 4 speed light and D21 telling me different

None of those cars in the other the thread quoted are in the same class as the car that just sold.   For that matter, none of them are Daytonas either.   Yes, prices are down.   The point is that there are still buyers who will pay for quality.   The auction house marketing the car can make a difference too.

BigBlockSam

i haven't seen any Daytona's sell lately. i heard that the y2 one,  with the black tail  went for about 110k

i saw a yellow superbird  at the RM auction go for mid 70k . i don't know the specs , cause i caught the auction late but it shure was purdy .

yes, there are those exceptional cars that command more money . it's a bad time  to sell a car right now .

the big ticket mopars did what the house market did . sank . Rene

Wasn't this Daytona the one being sold by Best of Show Automotive? If so I'm sure Doug C. will chime in because he was very fond of that car.

The Happy Days car has had the nose seam fixed...   But it is not the car that just sold at Mecum.

:iagree:

I have said for years there is always someone willing to pay for a good quality car with good paperwork, color and no issues. An ass for every seat as Scott Martin always used to tell me.

69_500

There is still money out there to be spent on quality cars. Then there are people who used to have money, that spent it on less than top notch cars that are now wishing they hadn't spent that kind of money on them.

As my dad always said, "There is a sucker born every minute." Which is why most of the cars in the past few years went for stupid money.

One last point..that car was not a Gibson resto....he did work to it etc but it wasn't a full job by him

Its car #227 sold from Spencer Dodge Wichita KS

Did anyone read the Mopar Muscle article?

"Dave proceeded to go over the car for the TV show, pointing out the details, such as the blacked out front grille, that made it such an authentic restoration,"

It sure as heck looks body color to me!...as it is suppose to be!
