340 indentification??

How do I tell a 340 cast crank from a 340 forged crank? How do ident the year, numbers match to a car ect??

Look on the front of the block, drivers side below the head for the engine serial number. If it's a late '72 or '73 it will have a cast crank. Also, the harmonic balancer will have an eccentric weight with the words "Cast crank only".

Look for a machined flat on the passenger side of the block just above the pan gasket for a partial VIN to match it to a particular car. If the engine is an early '68 it might not have the VIN stamped.

I thought all HP blocks in 68 were stamped, even the early ones???
WANTED: NOS or excellent condition 72-74 4 speed shifter boot for bench or centre armrest car, part number 3467755. It's a rubber boot that looks like it's sewn up leather.
