Well, looks like the day may come where I'll be getting that long-awaited Daytona. I started this journey 30 years ago from the purchase of my original 68 318 Charger, upgrading to my former v-code '70 Charger R/T, trading even up for my current '68 Hemi Charger R/T project and along the way, picking up Dana, my faithful T7 4-speed '69 Charger 500. In between all this time, I proudly owned Whitey, my former survivor '71 Charger R/T...

Now a time has come where my desire for a real Daytona burns bright and my wallet bleeds money over a particular '68 Hemi Charger R/T project. Granted, I've had my up's and down's with this car as most of you already know. The most recent progress with my own hands balances out the struggle with the previous attempt at a full paint job and then the enormous amount of money to correct it.. Well, I'm getting tired of trying to put her together paycheck to paycheck. As you all know, that's a process that takes forever and I've already been on this road for over 7 years with this car.. Will she be great when done, darn straight she will... So, I have to ask myself, am I willing to wait that long in order to use it to get a Daytona, which is my ultimate goal. Then, there's Dana... She's been a great car. But, the '68 on its own isn't going to cut the mustard at this point. Dana will need attention in the near future and there's additional cost for that..

Sooooooooooooooooooo, I went to look at this Daytona yesterday to determine if I want to do this 2-car for the Daytona trade, no money involved. A handshake, swap of titles and done.... In my garage will be a darn good-lookin'-ready-to-drive-Daytona. Is it perfect?, no. Are the things that need attention stuff that I can tackle by myself and at relatively low cost? Yeap...

The owner and his sons were real nice and allowed Scott, Jacob and I to browse around what he had.. Come to find out, he's probably going to buy my former v-code '70 Charger R/T. Go figure, small world............ Maybe we can work something out for that?  :icon_smile_big:

Here's what I would get............ Some of you know it already as Pete Wiseman's former Daytona that was in England and had a Hemi in it. Brought back to the States where Julius put the 440 in it and detailed it out. I would change things here and there to make it look more OEM.. It was also featured  in Mopar Muscle magazine.

Guess I'm letting the cat out now.. This is the same car I was trying to work out a deal with two previous owners ago, but just couldn't come up with a plan for both of us. But, funny how things turn out....

It's a 440 auto car with the A32 high performance axle package (4:10 Dana). One thing about those gears I'm not used to, "when's it going to shift into 3rd?" Of course, it's already there. My former v-code had a 4:10 in it for a time and boy, what a ride... 4:10's in a daily driver left me NOT passing gas stations and everyone passing me on the Interstate...  :icon_smile_big:

In addition, this may be a door of opportunity for another Daytona I want, Doug's !!!!.. If I can swing it, then I would try for his and another C500.. But, 1st things 1st. I can't even imagine using Daytona and selling in the same sentence, but if it'll help me get Doug's,, someone's else's I know and a decent C500, it'll be well worth it. But, regardless, if it's this one, Dougs, or the F6 I know about, I will have a Wing in my garage...

Guess I may need to change my profile name...  :icon_smile_big:

Troy

PS: Added the later photos here of her arrival to the beginning of the thread as well. Bottom 3 pics are of my trip to look at the Daytona the week prior.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have had a long, and well publicized, journey to this point.  I'm very happy for you.

That is a SWEET lookin' ride.  The kid seats will go well in it (trust me, I know).

Bringing it to Talladega?

I'll trade you the 71 Cuda, the 73 Cuda and the B5 wingrunner for it.  :icon_smile_big:

I know Steve.. You have been as well an inspiration for me as a driving force on the '68 through my bad times.. I do have the regret of not knowing what my hard work feels like under accerlation, but that's ok, I'll have a vertical stab in my rear view mirror..  :icon_smile_big:

Congrats on the find.  I hope it all works out for you. I myself dream of the car you're trading.  A 68 Hemi Charger is top notch with the rest in my opinion. Just in another form.  I just want to know what you're going to do with those stilts with casters that you had the 68 Hemi Charger on?  Still need them?   :icon_smile_big:  Ted

You got that right, Woody. At one point I was lucky enough to own 3 wing cars at the same time:

A Tor Red Superbird - #'s matching "V" code 440 six-bbl, 4 speed Dana car with 3.54:1 gears and Power-loc, 1 of 308;

A Corporate Blue (Petty Blue) C37D Superbird "U" Code - 440 4bbl, A727 column shift, with 8 3/4" with 3.23:1 gears; 1 of 28, and

A Hemi Orange Dodge Daytona - originally a 440 4bbl car, I screwed around with it and put a date coded 426Hemi in it with 2 x 4bbl Carters, A727 floor shift, factory front disc brakes, Dana with 4.10:1 gears and Power-loc. 1 of 403(ish) built.

I have been very fortunate.
