I'm Bamboozled... Engine/Vin code error.

a 68 vin will not read  XH ,   sounds like its XP29H    H = 383 hp

in 70 a charger vin could start with XH

Im new to the codes on these cars.. how does H=383? Thats just what it was in 68' before they made the 340 and it was changed to N?  Baby steps baby steps... :lol:

Ps. I fixed the P in the VIN I wrote that part down wrong myself  :slap:

The confusion was because the seller blocked out the rest of the VIN making it XP29H******** So I only put the first section in the decoder, therefore it didn't correct for the year obviously giving me my 340 problem.  :scratchchin: However, when I added the year it gave me the right results, thank you for your help!

H was the motor code for the  383hp , for the 68 & 69 model year only ,
then H for the 1970 to 73 model year was for the 340hp motor

yeah the codes are confusing at first  example a 440 for 68 & 69 is a L code , but in 1970 a L code is for a 383 !
have got a chart somewhere  ,  the year one site has one also i think  :scratchchin:
