1969 Dodge Charger - Ol' Yeller

WWW
« on: November 27, 2005, 02:00:36 AM »

Some of you from the old site remember my poor beat up Charger.   The guys sandblasted it into the Stone Age:

http://www.robotech-aod.com/Charger/214%20-%202005-7-20%20-%20Dodge%20Charger%20Sand%20Blast%20sm.JPG
http://www.robotech-aod.com/Charger/193%20-%202005-7-20%20-%20Dodge%20Charger%20Sandblast%20sm.jpg

http://www.robotech-aod.com/Charger/203%20-%202005-7-20%20-%20Dodge%20Charger%20Sandblast%20sm.jpg

Then they primered it in a most awful fashion....

Thanks to the miracle workers at Jim's Body Shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma...      The Ol' Yeller Dodge started to look like a car again...

http://www.robotech-aod.com/Charger/2005-10-15%20Charger%20597.jpg

When I saw the car in November I didn't recognize it....

http://www.robotech-aod.com/Charger/2005-11-11%20Charger%2005.jpg

And here she is now.....95% complete....   Awaiting some glass and interior parts....a few minor details...and insurance to drive her again. Smiley

We're not done yet.     A few tweaks need to be completed, but this is a far cry from what it was when we started...

I thought I would never see this car look good again.     I am glad to see I was wrong.

Thanks all for the comments.   Smiley

This has been in our family since new.   It's only a 318 but it is 100% numbers matching so I figure what the heck.   I'll keep the 318 until I can't fix it any more.

Man Skull, that is a good Charger compaired to what most of us start with. I could see in the trunk from the out side the day I picked up my 69 Rusted/Trash.

              Cuda Ken.

PS, I think the side reflactor I am sendin you has rust Wink Only thing on my Charger that did not rust was the glass. icon_smile_approve

LOL!

I thought it was a total rust bucket.

Actually it has been "restored" two other times.    They were chop shoppers though and did me no favors.    They didn't do a thing right.    This body shop had to undo all the screwups the other places caused.

I am hoping this is the last time I have to do this for another 20 years.    The roof keeps rusting back out no matter what we do to it.    I am hoping these guys got it right finally.

I think the trunk floor is totally non-standard (from a previous resto).    The car sat in a hangar for four years and rotted.    I figured there was no sense going for a totally factory trunk floor when I am just going to throw a floor mat over the whole thing. Smiley

Thanks for the reflector, BTW.    I'll see what I can do in return.

So what happened to the back windshield?

Sorry I never responded to this.   The back window got blown out when the idiots sand blasted it.   Then I sent a guy some money for one and it never showed up.   Internet scam artist.   Finally got one in it and it looks great.

I'm down to cluster rebuild and a/c panel replacement then we are done.    Can't wait to finally bring it home.

She's a Y2 Y2...   Just like yours.  Smiley

This car is 100% original with the exception of:

- Holley Street Dominator Intake
- Electronic Ignition
- Headers
- Slight Cam
- Mopar Performance Valve Covers
- 4 BBL Carb
- 340-Style Air Filter Cover
- R/T Leaf Springs

I did save all the factory parts.

With the hood closed it is basically stock looking except for the stance the leaf springs give it.

The 318 has been rebuilt, sleeved, etc. and it will rip the tires right off.   I haven't put it on a dyno but for a 318 it is quite healthy.

It came from the factory with a/c, the yellow paint, and the green vinyl top.  It has been in my family since 1970.

Hey cool. After 5 years I had forgotten about this thread! Bummer about the back glass, but that's obviously way in the past now! The car turned out GREAT  2thumbs
