Trying to pick a cam for a street 470 build. The combo so far is low deck 470, eddy rpm cnc heads, eddy rpm performer intake, 10.5-1 comp, and 1 7/8 tti headers. The car is a  70 challenger with 3.91 gear and close to 3000 stall. This will be 99.9% street car but I might take it to the track once a year just to see what it can do. Right now I'm leaning towards the comp cams hydraulic roller xr286hr. (236 242 @.050 with .544 541 lift) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Also what if any hp/tq difference would there be running this cam with 1.6 rockers? Thanks :2thumbs:

It looks like that cam matches up with your gears and stall.  :Twocents:

Should be a fun ride!!

I'M trying to decide if the hr292xr would be too big for this combo. It's listed at 242 248@.050 and 549 544 lift. Would this kill the low end torque too much? Thanks again

The HR292 would be my choice. With 470 cubes you will need some duration to make power up to 6k  :yesnod:

The smaller cam will peak too early, inmo  :Twocents:

Thanks firefighter3931, you don't think the extra duration will kill off too much low end torque? It looks like it will be right around 10.5-1 compression., thanks again

With the extra stroke you don't need to worry about loss of torque unless the engine is waaay overcammed. A 240@.050 grind would be considered mild on a 470ci build. The 10.5:1 static compression is perfect for that cam with 470 cubes. Throttle response will be strong, tons of torque and a strong pull up top to 5800-6000 rpm.  :2thumbs:

I agree with firefighter 240 duration @ .050 is mild with that long stroke/cubes. My SBF street/strip car has a 250/256 duration at .050 and almost 600 lift in a 3.5 stroke 357 windsor. With 4.10 gears and 27 inch tall street tires in 2nd at 2000 rpm it will light up the tires and put it sideways when you tromp it down to the floor. In the burnout box I can melt the slicks starting the burnout in 2nd. No lack of torque with a way smaller engine.
