69 Charger Rear Defroster and Speakers.

My 69 Charger originally came with a rear defroster.  I am upgrading to a new stereo and speakers, but would like to keep the rear defroster also.  I know that I have seen some pictures of E-Bodies with two rear speakers and a rear defroster that used a speaker extension box under the package tray to allow for both 2 speakers and a rear defroster.  Anyone out there try this same type setup with a Charger?

My car was just the opposite....single rear speaker & no defroster.

I added both.  Put the 6x9's in the stock locations.  For the defroster I mounted the motor on the opposite side (drivers side) in another hole in the package tray (to get the fresh air)
Turned the outlet plenum around & used a longer hose to connect it.

Aint purdy but it works

Speaker/blower adaptor wasn't an option on B bodies, just E and C bodies.

however it should fit down Charger packages trays.

That is exactly what I remember seeing, and thought that it should be adaptable to a Charger as well.

as far is on a 6x9 hole and don't get some obstacle in the middle everything will be fine.

3rd gens have a tight room there with the deck lid Tbars springs. I haven't tried yet ( have one around what a good friend give me for free on my visit around USA going to Carlisle ), but will try to fit sooner or later to check for the perfect fit.

an advice, get a location for the outer screw, because the blower weight can get it damaged. As far I recall, they get an extra bracket there too S shaped. It can  be homemade

as I told Brock, they are available repro, not cheap though ( $250 rate ), Or JY find, they are on C bodies.

I think I will go with the speaker also. I remember the rear defroster didnt work very well.

Agreed!   I have been searching for a rear defroster for my Charger but did not want to sacrifice my 6x9s...     That adapter will work just fine

Heard from winged 1 that the adaptor will not work on a 69 Charger without hacking away at the deep channel in the rear package tray of a 69.  Since I am against that. I will try and have a box fabbed.

Hey Nacho!  Who is repopping these?  My fabrication guy tells me that metal would be too hard to fabricate, but if I got my hands on one, that he could make a mold and create one out of fiberglass.

The rear defroster,was it an option or stand?I got my car in boxes so I'm not sure what it looked like ,I know I don't have any part for it.

I did this in my car.

I put the 16x9's in the factor location, then moved the defroster to a hole on the passenger side. Very similar to what's shown above. It was really easy and cheap.

The only additional thing, is that I cut a hole in the package tray and mounted a flush black speaker grill there to draw the air.

Works great and free!

Just came up with the same fix this weekend.  I sprayed an old Kenwood speaker grill, and am ready to cut the hole in the package tray.

Just a tip. Set the package tray in, remove the defroster, and get a permanent marker to mark the hole from the underside. This will tell you EXACTLY where to cut so you're not fumbling and cutting too big a hole.

I already marked the tray.  I am using the existing square opening in the metal framework, and marking the bottom of the tray while laying in the trunk.
