I am not sure as to what style windings are in the standard Auto Zone replacement alternator (60 amp I believe), but I heard the is a way to modify most alternators for higher amperage. I read on a few forums that there is a way to change from the Wye configuration to a delta configuration, but non of them said how to do it.  Does any one know how?

years ago they use to sell an upgrade kit that I figured had delta windings in it. I never thought about if it is possible to change a wye to delta. I can tell you how to identify them by looking at them. Both sets of windings have 3 connections. A wye set has one wire at each connection and the delta has 2. The wye also has a spot where the 3 windings end and are crimped together the delta does not have that.
