Hi all,
I need to know what has to be changed on my booster/master cyl set up to fit a Hemi in this 68 engine bay. I'm not really interested in a hydro boosted system.
Thanks

Mike DC

The Hemi won't bolt into an engine bay unless it's painted body-color.  :D

Thanks for that insight there Mike  ;).
When she's sorted with the FHO 540 ally and i have had a little time sort out the teething problems and beat up on it a bit...then it comes off the road again for the big tidy up and yes and it will have a colour matched engine bay.  :nana:
You got to agree it looks better than it did.

Mike DC

Heh, you're right, it does look better freshly blacked-out than it did in half green.

The truth is I think black engine bays don't look half bad on Mopars.  But when you made that post I saw a chance to take a cheap shot.   ::)

As you would, left myself open for that didn't I?

Just seen an offset Hemi booster set up on ebay ... buy now $3200  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

You have got to be f..king kidding. Could make up a pretty good 4 wheel disc set up for that, plus some change.

Mefirst

You do NOT need the booster.. That was the first thing I threw out from my car when I rebuilt the brake system.. I have discs now, front and back, still with out a booster, works really well and I do think the feel of the brakes is much better with out one...

Other than that you will need new engine mounts, I presume your K-frame is for a 440. Schumacher (sp?) has the correct ones.. You will also need a new flex plate, because the Hemi crank has 8 bolt holes to the 440 6 bolt holes

Thanks Mefirst, what brake system do you run? do you use you car a lot on the streets?
Thanks

Mefirst

Cheers Travis

The front brakes is the disc brake setup from a 72 Duster (~11" discs and Kelsey-Heys calipers), in the rear a custom set, with something as unholy as a Ford Explorer disc brake setup.. I run the 1.032" bore MC.. No problems this far, but one never knows...

The car is a "Street" car, but it wont see that many "Street miles" because the setup is more towards Dragracing than cruising...

JUST PUT A 528 CRATE IN 69 CHARGER. GET RID OF THE BOOSTER WILL HIT VALVE COVER. SPENT A DAY SCREWING AROUND TRYING TO MAKE IT FIT. PUT IN A RED BORE 7/8" MASTER CYLINDER. ITS A WILWOOD BRAKE MASTER. HAD TO FILL IN A SMALL GAP ON STEEL PLATE ON FIREWALL THAT THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER DID NOT COVER. I HAVE 4 WHEEL DRUM BRAKES STOPS PRTTY GOOD ONCE OR TWICE. cANT WAIT TO GET DISCS ON FRONT AT LEAST. MATER CAME WITH A 4BOLT TO 2 BOLT CONVERSION PLATE. TIM AT FHO TOLD ME TO GO WITH 2 1/18 HEADER INSTEAD OF 2 1 1/4. TIGHT FIT WITH THE POWER STEERING. WAS WELL WORTH EXPENCE NOTHING LIKE A HEMI. NEXT MOD DUAL CARBS AND A HYD ROLLER CAM FROM TIM @FHO SHOULD BE GOOD FOR ANOTHER 100HP.
I HAD TO REMOVE THE RAY BARTON/MP  SINGLE 4BL. MANIFOLD AND INSTALL THE MP LOW PROFILE ONE TO CLEAR THE CHARGER HOOD. DID NOT WANT TO CUT HOOD AND PUT SCOOP ON.IF YOU USE A MP BLACK AIR FILTER BEWARE THEY ARE ONLY 13 " DIA HARD TO FIN AIR FILTERS FOR IN DIFFERENT HEIGHTS AS WELL AS THERE IS NO DROP IN IT. HAD TO CUT AND MIG MINE TO MAKE IT FIT.
GOOD LUCK
