I hope I haven't asked this before,   P.G. classics sells vacuum pods I think they might sell two kinds  . one for airgrabbers and the other states for 68 chargers.  Now  is this also the exact copy of the superbird headlight door Vacuum actuator?             Now if it is  are these vacuum repops any good?      thanks

Tom,
What are you working on that needs pods? You buy another bird?   ;D

superbirdTom,
The repops by PG and BE&A are of the 1968 pods, the Superbirds use the 1969 version (different part number) the repops DO NOT hold vacuum on the rod end of the actuator like the originals do. I had mine rebuild by Alen Wilson (air grabber parts guy) and was more than pleased with the results. This is only after I had fought the repop actuators for a few weeks!

The part # is defferent .... The difference in the part is that the 68 ones have a magnet at the open stroke to help hold the door open. in 69 they used a different method for that and didnt use the magnet. From what Im told the magnet plus the saftey spring on the bird and Daytona is too much for the vaccum to over come. It cant pull the lid shut. So its gotta be 69 ones or you will be asking for trouble.

Thanks Stuart, I was just going to ask if anybody had his contact info. I assume he takes these apart to rebuild them. So can the housings be refinished at that point??  :scratchchin:

That's bad news for me. I bought a couple of 68 grilles from Troy H. and was planning to keep a couple of the pods from the parts grille to have rebuilt for my bird. I had no iedea that they were different. Can they be altered by the guy that rebuilds them? If not, can the 68 pods be used on a 69 grille and work properly. I have a 69 grille assembly that I plan to sell in a couple of weeks and could switch out the pods.

68 & 69 pods are the same from what I heard

<unless I heard wrong>

 I dug through my box of vacum pods and found one 1968 part number 2889883 and one 1969 part number 2926961 to take pictures of. I took one of the bottom side and one of the top side. They look the same on the outside except for the part number. In the pictures the one on the top is the 1968 and on the bottom the 1969.

John pull the stem out all the way on the 68 one and you will feel the magnet,then try the 69 one.

Brian,
I just dug through the box again and got one of each out. The 1969 type moved freely both in and out! The 1968 was hard to get started when pulling it out and when you got near the point where it was back in you could feel the snap of it attaching to the magnet! I can see where it would be difficult for vacum to overcome the 1968 magnets and the springs on a Bird or Daytona!

Vacuum is much stronger than you would expect. I wonder if the magnets might prevent the headlamp buckets from shaking.

I thought I heard that the magnets are supposed to hold the 68 headlight "door" in the up position...in 69 there was a "catch" to hold headlight door open?

<or am I wrong.....again>

superbirdtom

no I ve just been wondering if anyone has used the p.g. classsics ones?
