Windshield for a '69- what else fits?

I'm trying to get my Charger more together for the Mopar show in Langley coming up in July. It'll be probally the first show it's ever been to. Anyways, the one thing my Charger is missing that makes it look way less complete is the windshield. I'm wondering, what other Mopar windshields will fit? Are '68-'70 B-body windshields all the same? I'm hoping to find a decent condition used one since I don't want to drop money for a new one until the car is painted and all body work is done.

Any 2 door Hd top '68-'70 B-Body will work..You do know they sell these NEW now right?

RoadRunner, Satellite, GTX, Coronet, Super Bee, Charger, etc..The windsheild trim is the same as well...Did you know the '68-'70 Coronet and RoadRunner doors are the same? They only visible difference would be the inside lock location...

Convertables have a taller windshield and side glass from what I have been told.

Yep it does- I don't have it home until August though. Cooter, yes I'm very aware they sell new ones.....however like I said in the original post, I just want to make the car more complete for this show and I don't want to drop the extra cash for a new one until the car is done body and paint wise.

You'd be money and time ahead to just go buy a new windshield and a quart/pint of whatever color and type paint you are going with and just prep and paint the windshield channel the best you can with whatever you have or can borrow/come up with. Actually you could just paint it with black tractor enamel with a brush and be fine, nobody's going to see it once the winshield is installed anyways. And it would be a lot cheaper and last for years. I paid around $90 shipped for my new windshield gasket. The glass man charges $75-100 to put it in. You could be out of it for less than $400 and then you can work around it body wise and  not have to deal with it again.....or you can pick up a "used" one and spend about the same amount of money getting it in and then be unhappy with the cloudy edges and scratches everytime you look at it for the next....who knows? Until you do it again at an additional cost.

:iagree:

Who installs a used windshield anymore these days? New aftermarket ones are well under $200 bucks. Remove the old, clean up the channel, & install the new. No brainer.

Nope, Not a hardtop anyways. Seems like I read somewhere the 4 door windshields will fit the post window opening cars but I could be wrong?

i've been told if you look for them you can still get new ppg glass by a couple of glass men i've talked to    call around and ask

oldcarnut

Do a search on the windshield as there was one thread about brands and glass thickness.  If I saved it somewhere I'll post it up.  I bought a Pilkington windshield and gasket from the local Glasspro shop. Originally I was replacing the one in my 69 Coronet because of a stone crack. First one came in but it had one very teeny pin head bubble in the extreme lower corner.  Barely visible  and you wouldn't have even seen it installed but they were going to send it back but instead cut me a good price to use it on my RR. Both together were less than $200. I may be wrong but I thought I read the ppg glass was thinner just enough where it may cause sealing problems.  The Pilkington was supposed to be oem. http://www.pilkington.com/the+americas/usa/english/automotive/agr/pilkington+classics/default.htm
Found it.  Good read from Bill440RT http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,43619.0.html

Like I said, I'd like to stay away from new glass at this point. I'm trying to get the car more complete looking so I can enter it in the Unfinished class at the Mopar show here next month. If I can find a cheap used windshield to throw in it, then I'll be happy. I don't want to spend too much for one, that's the key to it all. Plus I wouldn't like sending the car to get full body and paint eventually with a brand new windshield.

Troy

The problem is still having to buy a gasket and installing the dumb thing. I haven't managed to remove a gasket yet without destroying it and the labor is something you can't avoid (so why pay twice?). If you can't find a windshield locally you're going to have to ship it which has its own problems (crating, size, insurance, etc.). Call a local glass installer and get a price before you do a whole lot of research and work that only costs you more money. A while back I remember seeing some locally for $165 or so installed.

Big dreams....No money. I remember those days, then I got realistic about my finances regarding the car. You've been offered good advice. Sounds like you've chosen to disregard it. Does the body shop pull the windshield for every repaint or repair? No....They never do unless there is repair to the windshield channel or the windshield is smoked, at least we never did when I worked there. They tape it off and work around it. You would be further ahead to address that rotted frame and start building the car from the foundation up with that cash instead of worrying about spending $200+ on installing a used windshield, just so you can "be in the show" By the way the glass man does not offer any gaurantee or warranty on installing used glass. At least not any glass man I've ever known in dealing with them for over 25 years does.

:iagree:  With what both Troy & 69DodgeCharger said.

Cody, please take the advice given you. A NEW windshield is simply the way to go here, both for cost & quality. Replacing the windshield will involve a new gasket, new clips (replace them while it's out, TRUST ME!), and any repairs to the windshield channel.

Step 1: Remove the old windshield. You can do this step yourself to save a few bucks. Get a windshield molding removal tool and carefully remove the trim. Lots of threads here on how to do this. Get a sharp razor knife & scribe along the gasket. You should be able to separate the outside half of the gasket from the windshield. Get in the car, put your two feet on the windshield, and gently push it out. Have a helper stand by, and wear gloves.

Step 2: Clean the gunk out from the windshield channel & repair the rust. Use a scraper, lacquer thinner, Goof Off residue remover, whatever. Then go over the channel real good with a wire wheel, stripper wheel, or whatever to remove the rust. Use 3M metal conditioner to treat the bare metal, or coat with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator or similar product to coat the metal. You can even brush it on with a foam brush. Don't use cheap sh*t spray bomb primer, whatever you do.

Step 3: Install the new clips. Chances are your old ones will be rusted, and reinstalling the moldings will be SO much easier with new clips.

Step 4: Call your local glass guy. He will come right to your house to install the brand-new windshield.

Step 5: Reinstall your moldings. Mark the car with pieces of masking tape so you know where your clips are, so you'll know where to smack the moldings to clip them in place.

Step 6: Enjoy the clear view. It will be free from scratches, stone chips, hazing, etc that a USED windshield will have, just like the one that's in your car now.

You will avoid the time & hassle of trying to find a used one, and perhaps the shipping costs involved, and risk of damage. Pick up the phone book and call some of your local auto glass installers for a price. Ask if they carry Pilkington windshields. If you're not worried about original markings or codes, that's the way to go. It will still cost the same to install a used one as it will a new one. You won't have to pay shipping or anything. They will come to you to install it.

I don't know what else more there is to say, except good luck with whatever you decide.
