As some guys recall ridelikehell had a not scared resto thread on his rust belt charger. I'm headed down the same road. I wanted to use photobucket to insert the image, but its blocked at the office. Flickr does not seem to have a direct img code. If anyone wants to put the imgs in direct feel free. I have dial up at home so that can't happen :(

I've done most of the blasting and some cutting out, drilling spots. My brothers own a shop and been doing it for 30 years, so they are doing the real metal work.

waiting on a section of rear seat pan and section of 1 front inner fender. Once the seat pan  is patched along with the inner i'll blast the front clip. Front clip was pretty good shape. Then off to the rear.

Have the whole AMD rear clip and roof skin.

Car rotted wierd. Most cars in this shape the springs are threw the trunk and frame rails gone, inner rockers done. The rails still have original paint and the rest of the unibody was solid. Inner rockers not even pitted yet the floor was toast.

Honestly I don't think its going back B5. The original motor is gone :(. I plan on dropping in a steel crank 71 or older 440. Headers, cam, maybe a dualplane and holley street avenger if it will fit on the dual snorkel under the stock hood.

As it is now pretty sure tripple black with a red tail stripe and old school american racing 200S wheels. I always wanted a 68 r/t tripple black since i saw bullet when i was a kid, but life tossed me a 70. No biggie as much as i prefer the 68 front grill the 69-70 rear is growing on me.

I've had quite a few blue cars threw the years and not a big fan of b5. If it was b7 i could have lived with that.

It was a twin to 70RT's car ( i think is his screen name)

Hadn't welded since highschool. Tried it on the torsion bar crossmember :S
decided i'd stick to drilling, cutting, blasting, priming. Leave the metal and body work to a professional.

The upper/lower cowl is all welded in along with the drivers door hinge pillar since the last update.

We did a little work on the car today. We got the old rotted front upper roof bow cut out and the donor roof bow blasted/primed. The donor drivers inner was blasted/primed too. Tomorrow's venture is to fab a brace using the shock mounts to stiffen the front end before removing the drivers inner.(hope to get it out and the area blasted primed as well).

donor sitting in place. Blasted and primed the corner areas ready to weld in tomorrow

inner roof bow been welded in. The top of the front frame rail required a patch I assume from battery acid over the years.

patch test fit

Pic of the bracing my brother fabbed up.

the frame piece welded in and inner is gone blasted, primed ready to weld in the donor tomorrow.

This thread is awesome. I have a charger in pretty much this shape. Question for you: did you fabricate the patch for the upper frame rail under the battery tray? Any more pics? I would love to see all of them as they are very instructional considering I have to replace the same sheet metal.

Back N Black

Great thread and awesome job on the restroation. :2thumbs:

My brother made the top pieces on the metal jig. I'll check to see if i have others. She has been out of the shop since mid september as the winter accident boomss started rolling in. Hoping to squeeze it back in soon, so he can tackle the rocker, roof drip rails/skin, rear clip.

Any updates to this thread? I have been using your pictures on Flickr as a reference. They are very helpful! I just pulled my cowl off tonite!

charger_fan_4ever

Only done a little more patching on the rear floor. Shop has been rolling for the past year. :(
Have not given up hope yet.

Off to the races again.

Donor section in the rear seat pan area welded in. One foot well welded in. One left to go and the floor will be done.

charger_fan_4ever

Still goin. Floor is finally done.

Its just itching to get the new AMD lower deck filler plenum and 1 piece trunk floor installed.

The only frame rail that had damage. They hooked a chain on it and tore up a section.

Now you see it.

now you don't

Rear window frame and outside pieces of the package tray were mangled.

Some metal crafting and voila

Reconstructed inner corner now in place along with an AMD lower window frame. V shaped piece had to be fabbed on the tray where the blower motor would mount.

Lower channel

trunk floor gone

Ran into some more unexpected. Rear inner fenders are crispy around the bottom along with around the trunk supports.

Another AMD order
inners/rear crossmember/upper rear roof bow/door skin.

Still kind of baffled the frame rails, spring perches are so solid with original paint still on them  :shruggy:
