I have a 1972 dodge charger.  Just had the read end go out, priced it to have it rebuilt  And was going to cost way to much for me.  I would like to know what b body car am I able to pull a rear axle from And have that fit my 72' charger  I would prefer 2.71 gears or 2.91 gears.  I currently have 8.25" with 2.45 gears and that just to small of a gear

What exactly broke?  You can find about anything for a 8.25 pretty darn cheap as most people want to get rid of it and upgrade to a 8.75.

any 71-72 b body rearend to include 8 1/4, 8 3/4, and Dana 60 will fit.  73-78 b bodies have the same dimensions, but have isolated leafsprings.  Their spring perches have a larger diameter springbolt hole to accommodate a rubber insert.  Because of this hole, if you use a rearend from these years, you will need to put in a bushing to make up for the space or replace the spring perches with new ones.

where are you located I bought a 8 3/4 open to replace the 8 1/4 I had on the Wanna Bee.  I traded the WannaBee before I could pick up the rear end from MoparStuart in The Kansas City area.  The rear was out of a 72.  I have know idea what the gears are.  If you are close to Kansas City or StLouis.  I would try to work something out. as stated you can replace allmost any piece from an axle piece for cheap or accesible price.... now the work, is another stuff... you can do it by yourself

but if you decide anyway to replace, I would consider what FLG said too.

what cars ? any B 71/72 body.... 2 doors, sedans, SWs... 73 and lates will work too, but will have to deal with spring isolators pedestals

If the axles are good you can probably find a open 8.25 center section used for about 75-100$ and swap it yourself.

I will be honest you should be able to find one closer for under $300.  I paid $225 for this one and thats what I need to get out of it.  It is drum to drum (big and heavy) I would guess it to be at least $100 to ship.  I am sure if you post what you are looking for on parts wanted, you can get an 8 3/4 open for $200-$275 and a Sure grip for about $450-$700.  I would go with the 8 3/4 and get rid of the 8 1/4. :Twocents:  Good luck to you.
