What should I know about a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T?????

Ok guys and gals.... my future sister in law is looking into getting a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T at a Dodge dealership.  The VIN is 2B3KA53H77H656241.  It obviously is the 4 door abomination but I can't hold it against her for that since she needs a new car.  It currently has 35K miles on it and has the 5.7l engine.

I am going to look at it on Monday night for her but since I am not familiar with the newer generation charger, can anyone point me out on what items I should check out on the car?  Areas that usually fail, prone to damage, recalls, etc.

As always, your help is appreciated!

We have a 2008 R/T have had no trouble so far (KOW).. I have replaced the right rear turn signal bulb.. Have around 57,000 miles.. Taken it to the strip and played on the autocross..  Note: There is 2  Different R/T Packages one is Trim Only the other is Performance.. My understanding if the R/T is large and red it has the Performance package.. If it is silver it is trim Only.. You can surf the Dodge website on chargers and it will show what the different packages include..Good luck :2thumbs:

Ok, she just said it has a red R/T emblem so it must have the performance package.  Could be why the thing was averaging 10 mpg when she took it out for a test drive. :shruggy:

I'd try http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/index.php or http://www.lxforums.com/board/index.php?.  Even moparts seems to have several new Charger owners & the car is more tolerable.

I guess I'm kinda surprised you would even ask that question here.   :shruggy:

I know my Magnum gets better mileage than that as well.

Shifters break.... Top end engine knock is common with milage. Worse at start up...

You'll get better mileage IF you keep your foot out of it.....very hard to do though.  pretty fun 4 door.  I miss my Daytona...sniff :rotz:

Being an owner of an 08 Daytona which has both R/T packages. The sheet metal ain't right but the performance goodies are what you would expect with the Charger name plate. For a start  345 c.i. engine put out 335 hp to the pavement on 87 octane. The mds system which uses oil pressure to the designated lifters to shut down four cylinders for economy(16 city 23 hwy mpg) works seamlessly and can only tell that its cycling is by the dash indication and the exhaust note. This is why you hear a ticking noise coming from the engine and can be all but eliminated by using synthetic oil. Traction control is controlled by the esp through the brake wheel speed senors and when rear wheel spin is detected the engine momentarily cuts out. Pres the button to disengage the esp the mds is bypassed so is the traction control and with the modern version of the slap stick shifter and 5 speed tranny it would be just like the old days if they offered a sure grip cause the battery in the trunk on the right side is not helping. The rear is a cast off Mercedes independent set up that is high end for a American car and combined with performance springs, struts, shocks,4 wheel disc brakes and tires this car can hang in the corners with the best of them. With a full factory installed and calibrated dual exhaust it sounds sweet when put the pedal in it like an old school small block. Calling this car a Charger was a marketing move to sell cars not a trip down memory lane.

The wife and I saw a Charger in this exact color tonight and both of us said (at the exact same time) WOW, that looks awesome!

Something about that color really makes the car pop.

That's kinda like comparing bud light and coors light, it's still light beer!         :image_294343:

I could care less what a family truckster can do in the 1/4 mile.  I doubt the person buying this car is interested in the name or what it means (or doesn't mean anymore).  That woman is looking for a family car, and that's what she's gonna get.

I've got an 06 RT daytona and my bride has an 08 SXT.  Both are great to drive.  The 5.7 with the MDS is seamless in operating.  No problems and no complaints.

Ask on www.chargerforums.com.  Probably the best source of information on the generation 6 Charger aside from www.lxforum.com.

The '07s are pretty bulletproof.  Its a good car that she will likely enjoy.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I did post over there also.  From what it seems, they were known to have shifter problems as well as tie rod end problems.  Since there was some questionable stuff about it, she decided to pass on it.

Thanks to all who responded.

I have a 07 Magnum and its a decent car except for the front end problems. My 2 cents would be to make sure you check it out.

My wife was 20 when we got married, and she was 24 when she had our first child.  We are coming up on 22 years of marriage, make more money than any of our siblings (100,000.00 a year), and have an overall wonderful life.  Why would you be afraid of a 25 year old woman having a family?

resq302

A) - they are not even engaged yet.  Hence the future sister in law.
B) - they are no where close to even thinking about having children so no need for a family car.
