Did you guys know that the '55 Chevy that Harrison Ford drove and wrecked in American Graffitti was the same car that was used in Two Lane Black Top?

You must of missed the post about that here a few months ago. But I learned that here (or on the old board) a while ago.

Yeah, I must have missed it. Just watched Two Lane Black Top for the first time over the Holidays and the February Hot Rod Mag has a list of car movies that mentioned it. Charger's were in 5 of the top 40 movies.   ;)

I saw Two Lane Blacktop at a local 1 screen theater.  Monte Hellman (director) attended and he had a question and answer session after the showing.  That was one of the points brought up in it.  Pretty interesting guy it seems.

The same shop built and rebuilt both cars. :icon_smile_big:

I need to see it again.

I was watching very closely as I heard there was a scene with a Charger. I walked to the kitchen about halfway through the movie to get a drink and when I walked back all I saw was Charger taillights and the '55 going in the ditch.   :flame:

Right, something like "it's an RT let him go" but the driver didn't want to, and ended up loosing it as the charger passed because of oncoming traffic. That is what I remember so what happened may have been different. I like the Judge more than the 55 but the chevy does sound good.

 well not exactly,..  :P

it's a mystery to me as exactly why the Charger is in there at all,.. as it dosen't add anything to forward the plot,
Midway in the movie (Two Lane Blacktop), The mechanic turns to the driver after looking out the back window of the '55 at a closely following car honking and flashing it's lights at the pair, and says..  "It's one of those new Dodge Chargers, Better let him by,.." and they do and what looks to my ancient memory like a bronze or gold '70 goes roaring around them,..
There doesn't seem to be any reason for that in the movie... no tailights inna ditch that i rememeber...
Still pretty cool,..

Some people don't get that movie, they think it's dumb,.. but I think It's great, Warren Oates is absolutly fantastic in that role... One of my fav. movies... definatly top ten on my list...
Anyone have a copy?.. I need it. BADLY!  :yesnod:

I just caught the very end but, I am pretty sure the '55 goes in the ditch or off the road because of a car wreck up ahead. I guess it was a rear shot of a '70(?) Charger kicking up dust more the just taillights that I saw.

there is a whole discussion group at MSN called 2 lane blacktop. It has all the info. The 55's were in 2 lane first then one was modified for American Graffiti. In American graffiti you will notice the front bumper is mounted higher than a stock 55 that is because of the fiberglass front end. And in the scene where the 55 pulls up to the red light next to Toad in the 58 you will notice the hood pins on the rear deck lid. They also covered the rear seat section in the American Graffiti movie. I love that Car and still want to build the American Graffiti version. Actually I have a model scene here at work in a book case next to me that has the 55 with Falfa in it next th the 32 and a piece of cardboard behind them with a picture of mels drive in in the background. I will post a pic next week.
