My Superbird has been judged at several high level shows
and no one ever mentioned the ignition lock finish to me!
I think OE level judging should start out with the car all locked up.
Then the owner should unlock the passengers door, the trunk,
the drivers door, the console lock if equipped, the glove box
and then the ignition! The same key must unlock both doors and ignition.
Also the same key must unlock the trunk, console if equipped and glove box.
I had to re-key the satin ignition lock to use the same key as the doors!

Agreed john, this has been a pet peeve of mine, and a first thing to fix, since day 1. Non-matching keys to me indicates inattention to basic details and for judges not to demand that as a starting point makes me question judges. My 1 experience, never to be repeated, with oem judges found that it was a beauty show before originality, and they never checked keys, starting, stopping or driving.

Then again old  is a clear character flaw of mine!

Spell check changed ocd to old! Both correct

I never knew there was a satin vs chrome finish.  :scratchchin:

Just found a photo of my Road Runner & see that it's the chrome one.

Do you know if it's been swapped out?
Does your ignition key also open the door locks?

I don't know if it has ever been swapped.  :shruggy:

There are only the two different keys, the Pentastar one & the round trunk lock. It's been in the locked garage since I've owned it so I never lock the doors & will have to check on that.

                            SUPERBIRD "KEY - IN" BUZZER
Since we are discussing the Superbird ignition lock I thought I would share some info
on the key - in buzzer!
I think taxspeaker Bob is going to like this one!
When I got done swapping from the chrome ignition lock to the satin ignition lock
     something didn't seem right?
Well I found out that the key - in buzzer wasn't working with the new lock !@#$%^&*()!
So while I had the procedure and tool list fresh in my memory I took the satin
     lock back out!
My first picture shows the chrome ignition lock with no key in it.
My second picture shows the chrome ignition lock with the key in it.
Notice the lever that pops out to activate the key in buzzer!
Sure enough the finger on the satin lock was broken and missing.
Lucky for me I had an orphan 1972 up style ignition lock with a good and correct lever!
My third picture shows the donor lock with the lever removed and
the misc pieces including the stub from the broken lever that was in the satin lock.
I re-installed the satin lock with new lever and inserted the key then opened the drivers door.
The door switch for the dome light completes the circuit and sounds the key - in buzzer!
It worked as it should now.
Another item that should be checked when doing the key check!

I cheat, no buzzer or steering lock!

Thanks John. I checked all 9 Bords, 8 are satin. The black ice bird is chrome because I yanked that sob out and bypassed it all while it was shorting and smoking on the arctic trip last summer. Interestingly it was the key in buzzer wires that started the whole mess and it is no longer present, having been discarded when the new chrome switch went in

It looks to me on the key in wiring pconnecter inside the steering column that those 2 wires are slightly smaller in diameter and don't quite fit tight in the original connector. All of this might just be poor eyesight though.

Somewhere on the gravel dempster highway to the arctic there is a charred crushed and cussed harness connector swearing back at me. Have you ever tried bypassing all 6 connections on that plug on a gravel road on the arctic while it's spitting snow? It can be done! Hard part was trying to figure out which color did what and wasn't needed

Mopar John

Bob,
It sounds like you found out about the key in buzzer the hard way!
I do agree with you that the connectors on the red wires from the key in buzzer
switch are a bit too small in diameter to make a tight connection.
