And what is it for? I know that the bottoms of the rear bumperettes bolt to it, and it also seems to create a contour for the gas tank to set into, but why does it bulge toward the ground (as seen in the circled part of the picture)?

Also, does anyone make reproductions of this part? I need a pair of them.

Hemidog

That is the exhaust hanger bracket. It holds the exhaust and bumperettes in place.
The bulge is rumored to be a old jacking point...

Maybe I was dreaming this, but didn't ma mopar also use the bulge on the brackets to secure the car during shipment to the dealer somehow?

It'd be cool to see some old pics of that... :popcrn:

I know on first gen's, there is a bracket on the rear frame with 2 bolts that was for shipping.  The dealers were suppoed to remove them when the car was prepped but very few got removed.

Our challenger also has those kinda brackets but more towards the rear axle.  For the chargers, I always thought that was a jacking point.   :shruggy:  I can't see how it would be a tie down point due to the exhaust tip being right there and no hole in it either.

how can the stock bumper jack reach that point way under the bumper?

hey, I was going by memory.  I can't even look at my charger right now since its not in my garage.  Its currently about 6 feet up in the air on our 4 post lift at my dads garage.
