I remember at Y2 Daytona that was being sold in California for about 106K. It was originally from Michigan....

440 automatic car with a glass nose was it not ?

Aero426

It is L9B386543.   As mentioned, that is the one with the restamped core support.   Also has 123k on the clock, not 23k.      I think it's a genuine Daytona with a messed with rad support.

It was speculated by a prior owner on the board here that it was the car in this old photo from Vegas.

C5X DAYTONA

This is not the same Yellow Daytona that was in San Diego Ca a little while back.  Even though this car sold in SD new..     This Daytona was on ebay 2-12-07 in AZ.  Rad support was changed due to being cut out.   Doug posted a picture when Tom had it in Vegas before it went to Bakersfield CA around 1980.   Tom had 2 Daytona's (the other was used in a figure 8 contest in Las Vegas and parted out after the event) and a bird.  Still has a bird but not sure if it's the same one he had then.    When my friend Mike refurbished the car he put a glass nose on it, and painted the car red with a white gut..    In 2007 this Daytona still had a glass nose on it.  The guy who was selling this car in AZ did fix the steel nose and replaced the glass nose just after the end of the listing on ebay.  I know of 7 owners of this car.  It gets around..     100,000 + miles is the correct number..

lol, first time i've seen that emote.

not meaning your response per say, but it always amazes me how people react to these cars being something other than an investment. a friend of mine provokes the same shocked response when he tells about stripping the wing and a few other pieces from both a superbird and a daytona sitting in an anderson, indiana (gw pierce) junk yard. this occurred long before the cars obtained cult status, but people still cringe when hearing the story.

i talked to this buddy today, and am updating the story behind the two wing cars. turns out both were sold, rather than crushed. the car crushed back then was actually a c500, which he believes was a hemi car. he recalled neither wing car being in terrible shape, that they were just not worth the cost of repairing at the time. he is also pretty sure the junkyard cut the engine out of both cars, and that the pair were later purchased by someone from cincinnati, ohio. no idea about the VINs, but he thinks there was some connection to one of the aero clubs.

yep, hindsight is always 20/20....hard to believe these things were just "used cars" at one time....still sad though. Kinda like the stories going around a few years ago about the cars collected during the "cash for clunkers"....Corvettes, Porsches, Mustangs, IROCs, a GNX, etc...

My dad bought one of the Daytona's from that junk yard.
