Pain, oxy, and the trials of workers comp can do horrible things to a person. Being in pain alone is a terrible thing amd sode effects of oxy include depression, I know that when I was on it I got terribly depressed and had similar thoughts but am very glad I didn't. During that time o had 3 surgeries and was in and out of PT for 2 years.  I also understand the lack of a support group.  Please, if you need a support group, reach out to us.  :pity:

Today is the first official day of winter.  The shortest day for sunlight of the year.  The days will get longer and brighter from here on out.

It's been rough on me this year too!

Just want to make a shout out to all of you on this thread and especially Dj.   Dj was the first person I ever shared my depression with, no one around me knew the depths to which I was falling and the bleakness that was holding me .
Steve Shirley's untimely passing was the trigger for me, he left us when I was at a very low point and after a  few discusdions about depression with a few other forum members I reached out to Dj and finally opened up about my depression.....
Since then Ive shared my feelings with my family and others who also suffer.
I feel great these days, this season has always been tough on me but its much better now. i feel much more alive.

Cheers everone !  Share your feelings

Merry Christmas

Cheers Dj.

I think it's hard for the average person to know what depression is like and the depths of it. There is depression from losing a loved one or child and there is depression that can seem minor in any given day but when you deal with it every day for years the pressure builds. Some people look at someone who is depressed as weak or an embarrassment which can cause that person even more depression. It's a slippery road and not the easiest to deal with. Here in Canada if you are clinically depressed you cannot own firearms, certain jobs cannot hire you, etc. Really tough for people to want to go find professional help when your entire way of life might be changed.

Personally I think some of us turn away not because we think people suffering from depression are weak or embarrassing but because we don't know how to help.....what to say or what to do without seeming condescending.  And besides, what advice or reassurance can you give when you personally have never experienced depression.  All I can be is compassionate.

Well people say the best step to getting through it is to talk about it so here it goes and I don't care who believes any of this or not.

Near the end of November (thought it was the start of December but looked back in my journal) my fiance left me and the very next day I lost my job. The day after that I lost my apartment. I've been battling with depression off and on for many years. But after this, I snapped. I tried to take my own life two days later (I won't say how openly so if you really want to know message me). For my troubles I earned a RCMP escort to QUESST which is a mini psych ward type of place in the local hospital. I was there for a couple days under observation. During the time the RCMP went and confiscated my firearms.

I got out of QUESST and all my friends had stopped talking to me. Wouldn't answer texts or phone messages. They were upset about what I tried to do and didn't want to deal with me. I left town with my SUV loaded with whatever I could fit into it (left a lot of furniture behind) the day after.

It's hard fighting depression. People ask you how you are doing and you want to lie. No one really wants to know that you're still depressed. The few times I've told people how I really was feeling, they didn't know what to say or do. So they generally replied "Get better soon" and then changed the subject.

Its hard to reach out to someone who does not understand , its a real heavy sense of rejection and it puts you right back where were.....in the pit of life.
Reaching out to someone here will definatly  find you a common soul. And it will help you see things a little more clearly.
all I can say is stay away from the drink and drugs, stay focused on positive thoughts and positive people.

Sorry to hear this Drache,  I sure wouldn't have remarked on your forgotten Christmas presents had I known. I thought it was just some unfortunate over sight on their part. Was it? Or was it deliberate? You say you left town, are you not getting any support from family?  Having to deal with it on your own has got to be very hard. Stay strong if for no one else but yourself. And know that we're all here for you should you need us.

No worries Fred. Like I said it hurt a little at the time but I was over it, that's why I posted about it.  :2thumbs:

At least when it seems your at your lowest, things can only get better.  And usually, they do.  Stay strong, stay positive.
