Is there really any reason not to use a different casting case on my 383? It will end up being close to 375 horsepower when my headers are put on.  I know that some of the earlier cases simply had a smaller size pinion, but will they be too weak for me?  Also what will the interchange issues be if any I currently have a 489 case.

The 741 is a stronger case than we are led to believe.  It is fine for almost all street cars and if you are changing parts out of a 489 case, the only issue you would likely run into wouldbe if you try and put the 489 ring and pinion into the 741 case.
If you have the 489 case already, why do you want to swap to the 741?  Parts are more readily available for the 489 and it is generally considered the strongest so the first part of your question becomes null at that point.

Well I have found that usually everyone wants the popular 489 casting, and I am wanting an extra third member to put in my charger with different gears.  If I change out just my ring and pinion now, then I may change it back later for originality.  I just figured for the price of a ring and pinion, new bearings etc, I can probably find a third member from the nonpopular years.

as long as the tires spin I doubt you will hurt any center carrier or gear set , but with traction the 741 can be a problem , i have scattered 742 & 489 carriers as well

You mean you have these scattered types of carriers, or you have broken both types

Pretty sure Chryco meant he has broken the different carriers regardless of how "tough" they are supposed to be.

exactly , I have broken every type of carrier no matter how good they are supposed to be , I use Danas now

How about this question; what gearsets do you plan to use with what case and what do you plan to do with each set?
