You know those funky steering column washers?

So I'm at work today out walking in the lot and I see this piece of metal laying on the ground. Of course the Charger is pretty much always on my mind and when I got a good look at this thing I immediately recognized it as being very similar to those funky washers that hold the steering column in place on my 68. I grabbed it up and stuck it in my pocket for comparison.

Once home I pulled one of the washers off the Charger to compare and sure enough it was all but identical. Until now I was convinced this washer was as rare as Bigfoot snot but now I'm thinking it may be more common. Are/were these washers more commonly used? What are they called?

Anyway, just wondering. I have no idea what it came off but obviously they're still in circulation. The Mopar washer is on the right.

Actually, unbeknownst to you, it hitched a ride to your job and tried to escape.  Lucky for you, you caught it and can put it back where it belong with the other mopar parts!

No, no way. I've never talked about it here so no one here would know anything about it. Plus it was way out there, probably 1/4 mile from the shop. I did need one but I got one off Ebay like 6-8 months ago.

So from now on when we can't find a certain part it's time to check out the pool table stores eh?

I've found parts in odd places before. Came close to buying a Kawasaki 4-wheeler part once that looked like it matched a 7/16" bucket seat shoulder bolt I was looking for.

just did a quick google search and found this...   :scope:

By the way, I did Google this part at the time but didn't know how to search it other than "Mopar steering column washer" or similar. What word(s) did you Google?

I searched "crown washer" and that meullers.com was the first site that popped up. Also if you change the google search to "images" that same picture comes up about halfway down the page...that's sometimes more helpful to me, searching by images....

Yes, I talk about it a lot. I meant I never talked about this particular washer. There's no way they would have known about this funky part any more than they could have known I'd be in that specific spot to find one.
