Here's what I keep handy right now...

Otherwise, I have 4 or 5 other guitars and basses that are either stashed away in the closet, in pieces waiting to be put together again, or on loan to my brother.

Here's an older pic of some of the other guitars. A couple of those belong to my brother now (we're always trading back and forth).

Posting pictures of your guitar in a stand is like posting a picture of your car in the garage...

Get em out and play em...that's what their for.....

Me with American Standard Strat. You can see the headstocks of the '76 Strat hardtail and Explorer in the back. Mesa Rocket 44 in lower left.

Designer Series Explorer on bottom..

Ponch, how do you like that Hamer?

I'm a part-time working musician also, so I keep a steady arsenal on hand. Some come & go, but I've had this collection for quite a while now.

Guitars:
1) The blue one is a '96 Les Paul Custom Shop Classic Premium Plus. AAAA quilt top, 1 of 25. It doesn't go out to gigs... much.

2) Epi Les Paul, YES, signed by Ozzy. It was part of a local radio station Ozzfest contest back in '99 or so. I've NEVER played it. The plastic protectors are still on the pickups. I may be looking to sell this one in the near future. Any takers?  :shruggy:

3 & 4) Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Super Sport: A GREAT guitar to play. Very versitile. This is my favorite gigging guitar due to it's versitility. 5-way pickup selector, standard trem, dual humbuckers.
'83 Les Paul Custom: Owned this one since new, it was my first "real" electric guitar, given to me by my parents as a b-day present when I was only 13. I literally grew up playing it. It just had a re-fret last year & minor touch-up paint work. I also recently swapped the pots for "hotter" ones, it really made a great improvement in tone & punch.
More coming...

That last Les Paul....the 83(??) looks alot like the Les Paul Randy Rhoads used :drool5:

More:
1 & 2) My PRS collection. Both Custom 22's, quilted 10 Tops. Awesome tone.

3) My acoustic setup: an Ovation Celebrity & a Trace Elliot amp. Real nice amp. I liked the Ovation when I first got it (early '90's sometime), but I've grown less fond of it over the years.

Amps:

1) Marshall TSL JCM Triple Lead Head with a Mesa 2x12 cab. You can hear the difference going from a Marshall to a Mesa cab. The cab alone weighs almost as much as a Marshall tube combo amp. Very solid.

2) Mesa Dual Rectifier Trem-o-Verb combo. I use this one for smaller rooms & also at rehearsals. If you've never played thru a Mesa Rectifier, try one! Crystal clear cleans & wall-of-crunch distortion. This one actually has 4 different amp channels, you can select them with toggle switches. Everything from country to blues to metal.

3) Practice Marshall micro stack. Good for practicing, that's about it.

Effects:

I use the larger board for when we play larger rooms, with the Marshall. Looks like a lot of stuff, it really isn't. Boss chorus, delay, flange, a Hendrix Cry Baby, amp footswitch, a mute pedal, that's really it. An AKG wireless & a Korg tuner round it out. I'll probably be selling the pedalboard itself & get something smaller to put the rack stuff in a separate rack case. We don't have roadies, & it's getting way too heavy to jug around.

The VOX Tonelab I use for smaller rooms with the Mesa. This is a GREAT pedalboard, IMHO the BEST one out there today. Blows away that POD & Digitech stuff. It's got a tube for the amp emulation sections.

This is what I have right now..

Peavey Rage 158 Transitube Series Amp (Good size for the house)
Zoom707 II Guitar multi-effects (lotsa fun in a small package)

Peavey Raptor Plus EXP
Fender CD-160E/12 12-string
Eterna (by Yamaha) 6 string (You used to be able to buy these at Costco... but the damn thing plays great! This is actually the third Eterna I've owned. The first two got shmucked.)

I don't have any pictures of my old guitars, but my Les Paul Custom (I think it's actually a copy) is still kicking around within the family.
I had 4 other electrics - knock-off copy types. Can't even remember the names but they all played well and had pretty unique sounds.
The only one I really miss is the jazzy exotic wood one.... ahh jeez I just had the name on the tip of my tongue..... I'll get back to ya on that one.

Old age su... what are we talking about?

I thought I'd bump this up. I picked up this LTD EX-102 Explorer a few weeks ago and I've been enjoying it. I'll end up throwing some actual Seymour Duncans in it eventually or maybe some Dimarzios. I was looking for a cool guitar to do a custom paint job on and I finally found this one on Craigslist. Here it is with my Jackson RR3 and Jackson Warrior

Here's a picture of my Designer Series Explorer. I never liked it as much as I wanted to and sold it. Also sold a 76 strat hard tail- didn't like that one as much as I wanted to. Sold Les Paul Studio - didn't like it either.

I still have my '78 P bass (Original owner-'survivor'), 99 American Standard Strat, 94 Explorer, Mexican Tele. Taylor acoustic and a beat up Ovation Viper.

That Strat of yours is bad azz,,,, that's how i noticed the picture next to it,,,, was taking a few minutes studying your guitar,,,

The older Jackson's are nice ,,, i used to have a San Dimas Charvel,,,ordered it new from calif and waited 5 months to get it,,,was beautiful,,,wish i still had it,,,,

if you ever get a chance to play a wolfgang,,check it out,,,not a fan of the appearance,,,,stumbled across it,,,and was blown away,,,neck and sound amazing,,,,

the older Kramers are also pretty cool,,,and fairly inexpensive,,,

what's the details on your strat,,,,,,let me know.......

Post by: Brock Samson on January 29, 2010, 01:22:06 PM
well, since you asked...   i bought it in 1978 at the first guitar center here in s.f. it was slightly used and i paid $420 for it. the biggest ticket item i had ever had to work for,.. if i could've afforded it i wouldhave bought the double necked BC Rich bitch they had there it had a 6 and 12 string necks on it and was a dark cherry they wanted $1,200 for it then and it might have well been an Atlas 12 rocket.
Anyhow, the blonde strat was a three bolt neck flexi-flyer but i was a senior in HS and had no knowledge then of CBS pre CBS or enough sense to research. A year or so later though, after various guitar guys examined my blonde I was painfully made aware of all these purist facts.
Funny though, a few years back i found out these three bolt necks pieces of crap as i was told my guitar is/was - are actually sought after today...
I bought it in a hurry because i had my second actual gig that night at a jazz club in Japantown called Club Jigoku
This was important to me because i wanted to play with the pros and i saw a opportunity to impress these guys in the "Guess Who? love band" who I idolised. truth is I didn't know shit and felt and groped my way around the magnificent Jazz standards these guys played and I was pretty stiff and nervous i had a shitty Rosac Amp with only a volume and tone knob and a Boss Tone Distortion box that emitted horrible static and rude noises everytime the cord moved even a little bit...
I did get a chance to play and even got a couple solos where i got to show off my string bending ability, you must know this was in the days before even Mike Stern played for Miles and a teenage white boy playing a strat in a jazz band was absolute sacrilege!
Anyhow the guitar has been modified twice, once by Stars Guitars which was THE place to have your axe hot rodded back in the '80s I had S.D.s replace the stock PUs incl a quarter pounder in the bottom and shielding and a 5 position switch, and of course a second Gen. Floyd Rose,..  The pick-guard I made myself from clear plexi (had to do it twice) and i added a half dozen grain of wheat lights from a hobby shop so the the PUs glow green blue or red depending on pick up selection, on stage under the light they couldn't be seen and were pretty silly on retrospect. I took them out the last time I swapped pick-ups.
I went into the guitar synth techo. in a big way in the Mid '90s and added the GK-2 controller, it took me over two years to write and organise my Rolands GR-1s' Patches so that was a huge ten year side project in all.
In '04 I had the pickups which were actually rusting out from performance sweat, replaced again with S.D.s dual humbuckers and put a Jeff Beck in the bottom. I love that PU!
Anyhow that strat has the automotive equivilant of 500,000 miles on it, and really needs a fret job now but since i have two other strats along with 10 other guitars It's pretty low on the prioity list.
My main strat the Roomian made custom purple one is very trick and built to much higher specs than any guitar I've ever played and is built like a tank. He also built me two Teles.
BTW:
a funny side note to the stars guitars hot rodding of the strat was that I bought a hard shell case from them, that was a fender prototype figerglass hard shell case that is slimmer and smaller then the actual final design Fender sold, It was at Stars for feedback and they sold it to me for a small amount of money, and I've never seen another like it.

 edit:
here's hendrix playing an Gibson S.G. that he's obviously having trouble with..

I Missed this topic.  Been playing since 1987.

Bought the Red Charvel Model 1 in 1988.  It got modded with EMG pickup somewhere along its life.  Probably mid-90's.  This guitar still smokes.
The Black Gibson Explorer is my 2nd one.  This one I bought in 2004.  My first was purchased around 1991.  It will soon have a set of Kerry King EMG's in it.
Guitar Center Trash BC Rich Mockingbird, made servicable with Carvin tuners and Super Distortion pick-ups.  Was trying for that Ace Frehley sound.  Didn't find it.  Now used to play off tuning stuff like Prong.

I don't play guitar, my wife does, but I thought you guys might find this one amusing. I found it almost 25 years ago at a "Sears Surplus" store, & decided to buy it for my wife that year for Christmas. It's made by Dean. My wife, as well as another friend, said it actually doesn't play that bad at all. It was mostly a novelty item I guess, but it probably is somewhat collectible.

This isn't the actual guitar, just one off the internet since I don't feel like moving a bunch of things & going through something like 15 guitar cases to find it.

The Bud guitar? Not any heavier than any other average electric guitar I've held.

Now the brass bodied Dobro I gave her as an engagement ring, that's really heavy.  :o

This one started out as a cheap Plain Jane fixed bridge White Strat that I had picked up for my son to learn on. When he finally got tired of it, I took it apart and got rid of everything except the body. It now has a 3 position switch for each pickup, allowing me to control each pickup individually as well as the phase of each pickup within the circuit. I got rid of the typical VOL knob normally located in the top position near the pickups, basically because I find them to be an annoyance with my playing style... it now has one Tone and one Volume. Pretty much everything else was added as well... Trem Bridge, Pickups, Tortoise Shell Pick-guard, Neck, Gold Hardware, etc...

This one was a gift from my lovely bride... It's really to pretty to play hard, so I keep a set of heavy flat wound Jazz strings on it for the mellow stuff.

This is my favorite... my Pride & Joy.... This guitar is another one that started out as a Plain Jane base model unit. I gutted it and started fresh.... added the center pickup, tapped into all of the coils and fed them through a 4 pole 6 position rotary switch, which outputs to a set of phasing switches, and then to individual tone & volume circuits. I also modified the output circuit, so unlike most LP's I can turn the volume of one pickup off without affecting the output of the other. I can do almost anything with this guitar.

Here's a couple of more... The acoustic is one that I had picked up used back around 72... I lent it to a friend, who lent it to a friend, who lent it to another friend, etc,etc,etc.... I lost the guitar, and would not see it again for another 30 years. I was visiting my sister one day when she told me about an old acoustic guitar that she had up in her attic. Her son had picked it up somewhere and brought it home to learn on, but quickly lost interest in it. She pulled it down out of the attic so I could have a look at it. I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened the case, but there it was... my old and most favorite acoustic. A lot of stuff was broken on it, and the tone was pretty dead from years of neglect, but I fixed things up and she's starting to coming around again now...

The Black hanging beside it is a standard model that I use for heavy humbucker stuff. It has a real edgy tone to it..

Here's an early 70's vintage Gold Top that I've had for years... I started reworking it a few years ago, but my daughter stole it to practice on, so I haven't finished. I still have all the parts to put it back together however, and someday I will... It's just not at the top of my To-Do list right now.

I have 11 guitars in all... including a Black SG which my son has at the moment. He's using it with his band right now.

I also play through a couple of different amps at the same time... This is one of them... a modified Traynor tube amp... I pulled the crappy Sovtek tubes and Celestion Speaker, and replaced them with stuff that I like. Because it's a dual cabinet system I also added a speaker volume control circuit to the upper cabinet, as well as an optional high pass filter circuit, and an On-Off speaker switch.
I also built the lower cabinet which houses a 15" driver, an optional low pass filter circuit, and an On-off speaker switch.
All in all, a very versatile system when you consider all of the various cabinet circuit options. You can get pretty much anything ranging from the bright up front in your face tones, to deep mellow jazz tones just by flipping a couple of switches on the amp... and you haven't even touched your guitar yet.
This my main amp system...  but I also have a big solid state amp that I use for effects.

My son with the 72 charger is actually the lead guitarist in a rock band. He plays a Gibson SG standard which he mowed yards all summer to pay for. We try to support the music thing since I was in a band as a teenager and had a blast doing it. I am also a fan of guitars.

Here is my collection of Guitars.. My "Punk/Rock Sticks" are not any where near as exclusive/expensive as many of the previously posted guitars...

On top my Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Special II and my Washburn V200 Pro E

I have to say that I really like the cheap Gibson, had it for some 12 years now, the weight and balance is good and I love the sound. The Washburn is my new guitar, actually bought it today.. I just think it looks killer cool.. its also a really nice guitar to play. I also have to say that Wasburn has got the balance of this V-shape guitar spot on..

Here is my acustic guitar.. also a Washburn brand guitar..

Here is my little Amp, a 10W Laney LG12.. It makes enough noise to fill my little appartment.. and no doubt that my neighbours also hear it.. I dont use any kind of effect pedals, I think effect pedals are kinda stupid (-Sorry).. I also have an old Peavey Bandit 112 Amp, but its way to much Amp to use in my little appartment, and it also sounds like "Poop" if played at a low volume, so I dont use it much...

Cool!  I'd like to get a nice semi-hollow.

I just picked on of these up today. Needs a setup, but with an adjustable nut, it's pretty easy to do myself.

Sounds pretty good. It's light and it will travel well.

on the left is a custom built 'Explorer' bass, made in 1979-1980, mighty mite body, jazz bass neck, dimarzio (sp?) pickups.  I sill have this.
in the middle is my 1965 Hofner Beatle Bass.  Loaned it to a friend, never saw it again.
on the right is my 1978 Rickenbacker 4001.  Sold it in 1991.

The Ric was great!  I just loved the look of the explorer, so I had the custom built made.  It is wired just like the Ric, including the Ric-o-Sound stereo set-up.  the micro switches are coil taps on the pickups.

Ok, I'll play.  Except mine also has "Flat Stanley" hanging out. The picture was for my grandson!  The guitar is a 1974 Gibson Hummingbird Custom I bought new at a local music shop back then. The picture was taken a couple of years ago and it still looks great!

For Christmas, 2009, I bought myself another acoustic that has built in pickups (Seagull) to practice with but, I don't have a picture of it.

I sold most of my gear and will be selling off more but I'm keeping this one.  I made it from scratch a few years ago, modelled after a '52 tele.

It has a solid ash body, one piece maple neck with walnut skunk stripe.  The pickups are keystones, I forget what the other hardware is from.  Fun little project.  I gave the fretboard a 12' radius as I prefer it to the 7 or whatever Fender uses.

I have all the wood to make a Les Paul but it'll have to wait for many years to come.

Title: Re: Guitarists....post pics of your guitar!
Post by: Dino on July 02, 2013, 06:38:09 AM
Here's the funny part.  First of all, I'm not a woodworker, I learned this stuff as I went.  Because I had plenty wood and I was sure there would be a steep learning curve I thought I'd ruin it on the first try.  Because of this I thought I'd have nothing to lose so I wasn't nervous ad afraid to break something and yep you guessed it, got it right on the first try!   :icon_smile_big:

Now the Les Paul is a different matter, that wood was a bit more costly and I only have enough to build one.

Absolutely!  The Tele was a nice project because, like the Strat, is a very basic design.  Two slabs of wood basically.  The Les Paul is an entirely different animal with a two piece body and a set neck at a slant.  Screw up the neck pocket and it'll be expensive firewood!

Yup - Started playing as a kid.....the playing got spotty for decades until a year or 2 ago.....Then I started going hard again....and very happy that I did!  :2thumbs:

Sometime in my early teens I started playing Bass....because none of my buddies wanted to!    So, I picked up a '63 Fender Jazz bass - black finish....looked like it was only ever played once or twice.....and an Ampeg V4B with a 6x10 cabinet....very punchy. Sadly, I had to sell the Jazz to pay for car insurance when I was 16  :'(      And then there is the '59 Strat I sold a few years later to pay for something else....Sigh

Very, very cool. Will you be channeling a little Buddy Holly?

I'm curious about the details if you don't mind...(Sorry...the date coding thing spills over to vintage guitars too ;) )
Neck date?
Initials on neck?
"Round" or "V" neck?
Body Date?
Pot dates?
four or five digit SN?

I know - The date code thing follows me everywhere!

I better learn "Peggy Sue"

4 digit SN

The initials thing on the neck was less common in '55

Masking tape says "Mary 10-6-55"

The pot shown is 33rd week of '55

Here are some pics....

More pics...

Guts, "Nail holes" etc.

It has its original "center pocket" tweed case. It also came with the original "ashtray" bridge cover and whammy bar. It was a great find.

Yep.... LOL.

Again, very very cool find. How's the neck profile? The early ones are a bit 'thick' for me. Tele necks just 'feel' better for me.

I've had an update to the Fleet recently too, its a Maton SRS 60C, it just sounds amazing, , my tutor regulary gigs with his Maton and I went and tried a few others out, LAG, Martin,  but nothing came close to how it sounds, maybe Martin or Avveggio? would be stablemates.

All solid Australian timber, smells like a gum forest haha
http://maton.com.au/product/srs-60

So impressed with how it sounds. Finely crafted in a small Australian factory in Victoria with burls and whorls face and back and blonde streaks on the sides and back. Sitka spruce front and back, Rosewood neck, Sapele ring and headstock veneer. AP5 pickup. Resonance and Projection like nothing else. Wow  :2thumbs:
Such a pleasure to play. A True Lifetime Guitar.

Definitely worth a look and a play at a good shop if you ever see one guys, I cant recommend it enough  :drool5:

No work done on the Charger lately... I can't find any gas anywhere for the welder. The NAPA one state over (RI) might get some in next week... hopefully anyway.

Anywho... I 'm suppose to be taking it easy anyway, so I started building another guitar instead. It'll keep me occupied during the interim. I'm not done yet of course, but I'm getting close... perhaps a few more days. Everything is ready except the body, which I just finished shaping and rough sanding. I just put a good heavy coat of nitrocellulose lacquer on it for a sealer. I'll let it harden overnight and see if I can't get the finish sanding done tomorrow. Eventually the body will be painted Arctic White.

Nothing special for the body, I'm home on a Medical at the moment, so it's just some lightweight stuff I had laying around... Poplar or Paulownia I believe.
I have lots of Pickups to choose from... I have set of GFS 1959 Strat knockoffs here that I might try out first. I actually bought them for another build, but if they sound good in this lightweight body, then I'll just leave them in and get another set.

Clear coated over the Arctic White body this morning... It's just a rattle can job, but it gave me something to do for a few days.  I'll probably start putting it all together tomorrow. :scratchchin:

Still waiting on that bottle of shielding gas for my welder, so I can finish up some of the body work on my Charger.  :brickwall:

I started putting the new toy together today, and I quickly realized that while I had plenty of extra parts lying around to build a working guitar, I did not have enough screws to attach the various  parts... That said, I had to order the various screws required since no one around here sells this sort of stuff.

I still can't finish the guitar without screws, but I did get some work done this morning on a couple of the small items that I could do.
Wired up the pickguard components, and installed a set of locking tuners on the headstock. Hey, a little progress is better than none.

My Maton electric acoustic SRS 60C that I got in December last year developed a twist in the neck which affected the action. I took it back to the music shop and then to the luthier for assessment, he said it would be neck off and a major repair which i was a bit concerned about.
Because it was still under warranty Maton agreed to replace it, so last Thursday my brand new SRS 60C # 711 made in July turned up all the way from Australia.

Sounds fantastic, strangely more resonant than the previous, neck finish feels slightly different too, definitely more longitudinal grain in it but unfortunately very few burls on the face or back and a smaller less distinct blonde streak up the backbone. Smells like a cross between an Australian bush forest and Kylie Minogue  :icon_smile_big:

Still though, very happy with it. Beautiful sound. $2k worth anyway, am fine with that, its performance grade and a lifetime guitar as well.  Didn't really need ali heads and a cam upgrade anyway....

I also made a portable power supply kit that fits in a technicians suitcase. It runs on two 12v 9.6A/h batteries connected to a 24vdc - 230vac 700w Inverter. I can run both my small amps on it and also ran my bass player mates gear off it too. Gives around and 1 1/2 hours of power time which is plenty for busking and doesn't weigh too much.

Since I'm away travelling and working at the moment I couldn't live without having a guitar around and didn't want to risk damage or theft of my beautiful Maton during transit, so I went up to my local favourite music shop and the lovely Liz did me a killer deal on a cutaway electric acoustic and hard case for $500.

Its a Cort MR E NS and yes, made in China but it sounded the best of what they had available in my budget.
Solid top, might be a type of stika with lovely grain and lots of burls and has mahogany back and sides, also has mother of pearl inlay around sound hole and outer edge. A bit thin mid tone range and not a lot of bass, but I'm spoiled after playing the Maton for a while. Nice finish and feel too.

Had it since September last year and used it quite a bit, it sounds nice.
This trip back up here I brought my Ditto looper pedal and purchased a 10w 3.5kg Troubadour amp for $169 so its made a bit more fun in the hotel room in the evenings. Don't know what my neighbours think about it but I'm really enjoying it  :2thumbs:  The looper is great for practising solos
I gave the case a bit of an upgrade too   :coolgleamA:

It doesn't always have to cost you a fortune to get a decent sound. I have an old Hohnor Contessa here that I picked up in the early 70's. It may not sound like a Martin, but it has a nice woody tone that definitely holds it's own. Check out the adjustable bridge, pretty cool feature for a cheap acoustic.

Love what you did with the case! :2thumbs: Was that a stencil, a stick on, or what..?

My other cheap acoustic... this one is an Xaviere.
It actually sounds pretty good, especially for $199. Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides. I converted this one to an acoustic electric. Like most acoustics however, it still sounds better unplugged.

Hi MM, was hoping you would check in with an update

Looks like an Airline H-78 Honeyburst if my googling fingers have it correct at Eastwoods.
Very nice and hanging on display for all to admire, wall art for sure ,looks like a lot of guitar for the money.

My brother in law did a some decals off online images a few years ago, I put one on my old 318 Charger to give it a bit more muscle  and had a few left. Had to really wipe it down firmly into the vinyl cracks so it would adhere and then left it out in the sun for hours to make sure it cured correctly. Really stood out in the baggage hall at the airport too  :2thumbs:.
Have got some Moroso and STP decals on the sides but was looking for some Betty Page pinups to lift it some more  :icon_smile_big:

There's 3 large JBL amps (you can see 2 of them) and one large subwoofer, a few PA systems, Fender Twin Reverb amp, a few smaller ones, a couple of EV speakers, a Fender Strat, 80's Gibson Les Paul, Taylor acoustic, Ovation acoustic, and a cheap Fender Bullet (garbage, basically there for looks, hanging on wall).

We have a blast down there!  :2thumbs:

The previous image of my Hohner was quite old, so I took a new shot today... This is what it looks like these days.
It's from the early 70's so the wood is quite dark now compared to the Xaviere in the background..

Blast from [my] past. My first electric guitar. X-mas present from my grandma in 1994. It's a no name strat copy, made in Korea (of surprisingly good quality, for what it is/was). The mid-90s being the prime of my teenage years, I was heavily into the grunge/90's punk/alternative thing back then - which explains the, ahem, decorations (that Airwalk sticker tho...)

Broke the neck sometime around 1997 and I never bothered to fix it because by then I'd moved on to other guitars, but this one will always have sentimental value.  Anyway, I recently cleaned out my storage locker and dug it out. I wanted to get it playable again, so I bought a Squier Strat on craigslist for $40 about a month ago to use as a donor. My brother is helping me out and we're taking all the good parts off the Squier and putting them on this body. Should be done in a few weeks, since we're working on it a little at a time. Gonna leave all the stickers and crap on it, because character.

Our son just had his first electric guitar lesson today! He did awesome! He's learning "Nothing else matters" (metallica), and has homework of "smoke on the water", besides finger exercises. He's a lefty so it was hard for Chuck to show him things since Chuck's a righty. Luckily his instructor is also a lefty!! I'm glad he's really enjoying it!  :2thumbs:

I just picked up a new amp the other week. Its a Fishman Loudbox Artist, rated at 120w with two inputs and a bunch of other stuff.
Sounds great with my Maton, good to be playing that again. But an amazing tone and sound out of the Fishman, cost was $1150 down from $1300 which was good.

Brought a Vintage overdrive pedal too, I'm loving that with my LP, don't know what the neighbours opinion is though, but its fun

Pretty cool Bob! I'd love to have that Fishman.

Here's my latest addition... an Italia Modena.

Vintage looking but is it a repop or old one?

Brand shinny new reissue with modern updates... http://www.italiaguitars.com/new/guitar/mode_01.html

It's a heavy guitar, very similar in weight to an original Gibson LP, not one of the lightweight knockoffs. Mini hum buckers always sound cool to me, I have them on my Wandre DLX too. Unlike the Wandre however, the Modena uses a 5-way switch and a blend control for various pickup output configurations. I picked this one up because my wife wanted to get me an Emerald Green (read Irish) guitar for my birthday this year. The one she was looking at costs about 3 times more than this one however, so I stepped in and beat her to the punch. I like it, it's definitely a cool guitar with that 60's retro finish... and my wife is happy that I saved a ton of money (more money for her later...LOL).

Here's my latest find: A Matsumoku Aria Pro II CS250 guitar. You old experienced guys probably know about this company. They made knockoffs of Les Pauls and Strats in the 70's, which in some instances were better than what those companies were making at the time. They also came up with their own designs.

I saw one of these at a ghetto swapmeet about 2 years ago...I looked at it, and took down the name. I had no clue what it was, but did look kinda cool. Didn't think of googling it on my phone while I was there and walked away. I eventually did look it up and almost kicked myself. I went back the next week and the week after that and never saw it.

I scoured eBay and craigslist every now and then looking for one, either they were too far or too expensive. Last week I was bored at school and started craigslisting again. Sure enough, this one popped up...at a pawn shop about 2 miles from my apartment! Finally drove over yesterday to check it out. It was dirty and had some weird build up around the pickups and whatnot. Their asking price was $200...I negotiated it down to $150. Cant seem to find out much about it based on the serial no (apparently there are a lot inconsistencies with the numbering system), but I do know that this particular model was built in 81-83.

Took it home, cleaned it up, and put new strings on it. Plugged it in, and went to town. Has some pretty cool switches that split the pick ups and also that puts them out of phase. Never had a guitar w those features, so I gotta play with it some more to figure out how they work.  Super pleased with it so far!

Those Les Paul "lawsuit" guitars are pretty damn nice!  I played a few over the years and they were for the most part solid guitars.  I was looking for one of those when I came across some articles about how Fender pulled the Korean made Squier ProTones off te market for being too well made.  I just had to have one of course.   :icon_smile_big:  Sadly it'll now have to go, I need moolah for the Charger.

That SG body is real nice, any idea on wat type of wood it is?  I used some of that fancy switching on my old Gretsch and on my homemade Tele.  I can't say I had a whole lot of use for the extra sounds but it was fun to play around and when wiring a guitar it makes sense to just do it.   :yesnod:

Been goofing around with it today. Felt a little strange (my hands felt small)...did some more research...its a long scale guitar! I put it side to side w my LP and the 5th fret is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch higher! I reckon itll be good exercise for my hands/fingers!

The guitar I learned to play on and the only one I still have. My mother bought it when she was 16 years old from Sears, in 1943. Shot included of her when she was 16 or 17 living in Peterboro and working as a maid (amongst the collage of her when young)

I don't have a pic yet but I just started learning how to play, at age 58. I bought a Yamaha F335 acoustic and a case for now. Plan on buying more things as I can(lighter strings, electronic tuner,strap,etc.). Soon as I can I will get a pic.

Unfortunately, I can't fit them all in one photo.

I really love guitars with some sort of interesting history. A few examples.

I have a Leo Fender made guitar code named "P2", which was a prototype for what became the Music Man Sabre guitar. The shape didn't make it to stage 3, but later was sort of recycled in the G&L years.

I have the prototype Jackson Soloist, made along side Randy Rhoad's second V in the fall of 1981. Years before the Jackson brand was launched.

There is an experimental neck through Charvel from early 1982 which was the first phase of what ended up becoming the Jackson Kelly. It is still very much an Explorer with some trimming to reduce size.

A 1978 Charvel made within weeks of Eddie Van Halen's black and yellow striped guitar. It is very similar, but features white and red stripes.

A 1978 Charvel Star made in a batch of 4. One went to Eddie Van Halen, one to George Lynch. The shape looks similar to the usual Stars, until you lay them on top. The originals were modified Explorers done by hand. Once it became a "model", they made a Star template and cut them out in the star shape from the beginning.

On top of those I have about 15 1978-1982 Charvel guitars, two same period Charvel basses. A 1969 maple cap Fender Strat, a 1956 Fender Strat, a 1974 Pedulla-Orsini guitar, and who knows what i am forgetting that is tucked away in cases.

My latest... an Eastwood knockoff of the Guyatone LG-50 Feather.
Strange... It's one of the tiniest guitars I own yet the tone variations with this guitar are incredible... from bright & poppy to really, really, deep & dark. A very cool guitar
Steve Howe used one of these on the YES album.

Time to bring up this thread again....

Here's my latest acquistion: 2017 Les Paul Classic Gold Top w/ '57 Zebra pickups.  I've been lusting after LP Gold Top since I was a little kid watching GnR concerts on VHS tapes, esp. the part from "Live in Tokyo '92" where  Slash plays the Godfather theme and segues into Sweet Child (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOoRECN0C5g). I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. Anyway, I'm now blessedly in a life situation where I can start knocking things off my wish list. Owning a Gibson Les Paul (as opposed to an Epiphone) was one of them. I don't play in a band and I'm a weekend living room warrior at best, so this is totally an ego / 'because I can' purchase.

I walked into the music store intent on getting the LP Studio Tribute (https://www.google.com/shopping/product/12237465514989882102?lsf=seller:43845,store:16101800990774352995&prds=oid:8751861684999068859&q=samash+les+paul+tribute&hl=en&ei=nZlOWofVM8jWmwHcoYmIBw&lsft=gclid:Cj0KCQiAvrfSBRC2ARIsAFumcm_f_tuYcBV-Hm8r2zwf4LWeWh_c6pEyYtUJ19-PJrScSEZ4jWpNgu0aAq6oEALw_wcB) version of the gold top, which is actually a pretty good axe in its own right. But they had this one hanging on the wall. After playing it, it was game over - it made the Tribute feel like a cheap pawnshop knockoff. The few extra hundred fazooles were well worth it. I know there's been a lot of complaints with Gibson's quality control over the last few years, but recent models (and this one) is near perfect. Believe you me, I went back to the store and tried it out like 3 times before pulling the trigger (and while I came up w/ a good excuse/cover story for the wife).

First thing I did when I got it home was take the pickguard off (because I dont like the look AND because that's how Slash plays them) and put on the "poker chip" under the toggle switch. I live in an apartment so Im limited to how loud I can play, but I took it over to my buddy's house, plugged into his Marshall Super Lead stack and.... :o

Hemi68charger's thread about his first gig (and his gorgeous les.paul) reminded me to bump this thread up and update the additions to my collection since last year:

First: 2019 Les Paul Jr. Tribute Double Cut
- The latest one, picked it up last weekend. The major retailers are (or were, if they're all gone) clearing them out and I got it for $600 and change. Plays incredibly well, and the p90's hold their own. Been playing a lot of punk / glam type stuff with it.

Second: 2006  Fender "Highway One" Telecaster (USA Made)
- Last spring I got to talking to a then new co-worker about music, guitars, etc. Says he has a tele he wants to sell. brings it over, I play it in my office and fall in love w/ it. More when he told me how much he wanted for it - I basically stole it. Has a single coil sized humbucker at the bridge that's not quite as hot as the 57 Zebras on my Gold Top, but gives it quite a nice tone. Not meant for metal anyway.

Third: Epiphone Lee Malia RD Signature
- Also had it for about a year. Mixed feelings. Awesome looking, but has some issues - hardly stays in tune, the neck P90 creates a lot of noise, etc. Apparently these are common QC problems and I should have probably returned it, but I'm way past that point now. Plays fairly well otherwise and it does sound pretty badass plugged into my Marshall. I'm either going to have it set up by a pro, or sell it to my brother whos been wanting it for a while (and knows about the issues). Im at the point where I have a bunch of guitars stashed away in their cases, in a closet due to space constraints and I hardly play them - could be time to start thinning out the herd.

Wow, great thread resurrection.
My guitar arsenal changed a bit over the last few years, thought I'd share some other guitars.
1) Les Paul Classic Custom, I believe I picked this up back in '07? Great punchy guitar.
2) Sold my Ovation, always wanted a real nice acoustic so I treated myself to a Taylor. No looking back.

I've grown to love EB MM's, so I sold my PRS singlecut which I rarely played anyway, and picked up a EBMM Axis SS BFR a little over a year ago. Mahogany body with a maple cap, and a wenge neck. Super smooth guitar.

Most recently decided to have a little fun Frankenstein'ing a cheap guitar. Picked up a Sterling Axis on the cheap, fitted it with Dimarzio pickups (Tone Zone at the bridge, Liquifire at the neck), some Dimarzio pots, a beefier tone block, and added pickguard. Added accessories in white for some contrast. Had the frets dressed and some other setup work done. 5-way pickup switch for humbucker or split single coils. This little thing flat out rips now. One of my favorite guitars to gig with currently.
Here it is before & after.
