Perhaps.  How many zeros should there be I wonder?  Last I heard (heard being the key word) they wouldn't take less than a 1/4 million and expected far more.  IIRC, atone time they wanted into the millions for it?

They wanted $3,000,000 in 2009 (as an opening bid  :eek2: ). I remember an article somewhere (a local paper in Connecticut?) that said it was appraised at $4 million. Right.

An interesting car for sure... seems like it should be in the Smithsonian or something rather than a private collection IMO. Anyone remember that Chrysler gave up the pursuit of marketing a Turbine Car (the Charger) to pursue Clean Air Standards?  :yesnod:

I just got one of those mint 1/8 SuperBird models and the shifter looks like a T handle? Wondered on that also.

I'll admit I'm not real current with values in today's muscle car collector market, but it seems like the seller is tacking on at least a couple million bucks for the "story," which to me at least, ain't all that cool. I'd rather have a car with race history--ANY race "

The story behind the car is cool, but doesn't add too much value to the car for me. Just my opinion.

I will admit that I"m glad they restored it to the way it was for the EPA, rather than to factory specs though. If your looking for a silver lining that to me is one. Kind of like how I would like to see more of the Aero cars still wearing their funky paint schemes they had in the early 80's.

The guy in the car is John Moran who was the EPA administrator that oversaw the project.   A couple years earlier, John worked for Dow Chemical.  Remember the sponsorship of the #99 Daytona?    John was involved in that deal as well.   So it is no coincidence that Ray Nichels wound up getting the contract on the EPA car.   Today, we would probably label this as a government "pork" project.   At the time, it was much needed business for Nichels as the deal with Chrysler had been taken from him and given to Petty as part of their deal to return to Plymouth.

The EPA car is pretty darn cool, IMO.  It's real and documented.   Probably not the car a single Bird collector would own, but definitely a bookend piece for an advanced collector.   I say $200k tops today in a room of buyers who have been to the bidders bar a few times.

Interesting and you're probably close on the value.  Imagine just a year ago it was listed for 3 million!  :o
I wonder how much the restoration cost?  Looks like they did a super detailed correct job, and that is never ever cheap.  Not for me though.

The pistol grip is a nice gimmick and looks great, but is a little clunkier to operate in a performance situation.   The white ball is what Nichels would use on a race car.

Looks like the pistol grip may have interfered with the aircraft radio mounted in the dash

It has a bid at 300,000. Not sure I can believe it. Noone in their right mind would pay that in this economy in my opinion.
