Is there a link to purchase the registration through the WMM site?    Thought I saw it before on the events link in the museum store, but now it seems to be gone.

Tim called today.   He says the track is enthused about the event.    They are going to reach out to a few of the aero car drivers and try to bring them to the event.   Looks like we will get TWO track laps on Sunday as well.

Backing up,   Chris Street in Atlanta is working on the Atlanta Motor Speedway track laps for Thursday.    He should know what is happening with that in a few weeks.   Otherwise, Thursday is a registration day in Alexander City.

Friday will be the display of cars at the Wellborn home starting in the afternoon.   In the evening, there will be a Louisiana cajun style shrimp and crawfish boil dinner.

Saturday will be the show at the Wellborn Musclecar Museum.   We'll take a break late in the afternoon and get back over there for a dinner prepared by Chef Tim Creehan.   Quail and bison has been mentioned for the menu.    Later in the evening will be the Halloween themed costume party which went over real well in 2009.

Sunday morning will be an early ride to the track.    Some of you will bring trailers.   Some will drive.    The track will give the cars secured parking,  possibly over by the museum.    Parade lap in the morning before the race.    The track will have a block of tickets available after the spring race in May.      They would encourage as many of us to stay for the race as possible.

Hotel reservations:  Book a room anywhere you want in Alex City.   It ain't that big.   We will have cars at all the motels.

The registration is $130 per couple which covers the food and goodie bag.    Individual tickets are $65.    You'll be able to register through the WMM site or by mail through the DSAC newsletter.

I knew I forgot to post the link someplace.  My apologies.

http://wellbornmuseum.squarespace.com/museum-blog/index.php/2015/3/17/aero-warriors-reunion-2015-update

Here's the blog about all the new information.

And we're updating the store now.  You'll be able to buy tickets for the dinner and extras here shortly.

So no gathering at the museum at the track on Saturday?

Was hoping to add yet another panoramic photo to the garage wall.

There's a Sonic right next to the museum, don't let the menu scare anyone away.
These events are too awesome to miss.

Got it all updated.  You can now purchase the Aero Reunion tickets through the Wellborn Store.

http://wellbornmuseum.squarespace.com/museum-blog/index.php/2015/4/14/aero-warrior-reunion-2015-tickets-available-now

Also the $65 tickets are in addition to the original ticket.  They are not individual tickets.

What if only one person is coming?    Is it still $130?

That's correct.  It is for one or two.  But any additional will require the $65 tickets.

This price structure is not very fair. Anyone going solo is getting screwed by having to buy the full price ticket for two. Single tickets for $65.00 should be made available without first having to buy the other one.

ok, riddle me this. there is no way i'll have the car running by the time of the meet so i would not be an active participant even if i could manage to attend. i have less than zero interest in the menu served at the estate for either day, especially with having to buy a two person ticket for it. i would expect the estate time on friday to be for those who purchased tickets and this would only be fair. my question is this - since the ticket holders will be returning to the estate for the saturday meal, what are the expectations for the time at the museum? is it open to the public or reserved for those who hold tickets to the event?

Note from Chris Street in Atlanta:   The Speedway Cruise at Atlanta Motor Speedway is a go for Thursday October 22nd..   Cost is $10 per car donation to AMS, and a signature on a waiver.   We will meet at the track souvenir shop at 7:45, collect the cash, sign the waivers, and head around to the west entrance tunnel, form up and cruise the track.   After, we'll do a ride south to Warm Springs, do a tour of Roosevelt's little White House, eat lunch and then finish the ride to AlexanderCity.  Questions, call Chris Street at 770-401-6542 or email me at hemibird@mindspring.com

This will be resolved.  I spoke to Tim last week.   He says that if you are coming solo, you will be able to buy a single ticket.    You will not have to pay for two.

Ok, well here is the official word.

It is $130 to register your car.  It has 2 tickets.  If you have anyone else coming with you, it it $65 for each additional person.

If there are any reason you can't do this, but still want to attend, please contact us as the link and we can discuss this further.

I will be driving the car, so expect I'll be taking many breaks.  Probably hunting for 100 octane pumps!  Don't want to slow anyone down, so I may time it with multiple convoys. Thanks.

Guys, need some advice, I plan on flying in, but flight options are limited from Canada... Is flying into Alanta, and then driving to Alexander City a good option? Looks loke a couple hour's drive.
Unless there is another major airport closer?
Any advice is welcome, either here or in a PM, Thanks!

Update from Tim Wellborn 8/14/15 -

According to track President Grant Lynch, the ticket office will have a block of tickets under the block "Aero Warriors Reunion".  I do not have the pricing, but I suspect they will have multiple price points depending on how high you want to sit.   To order tickets,  call the track at 1-877-462-3342  (877-go2-DEGA) or 1-256-362-2261 to reach the administrative office directly.

The seats will be as close as possible to the cars.   I expect the cars will be parked in the turn 4 area near the museum after the track laps.    Security for the cars will be provided during the entire race.

The track will provide a shuttle to get you to your seats before the race.    You are on your own getting back as people are going to leave at different times.

With the recent passing of Buddy Baker,  the track is dedicating the Aero track laps to him and will provide a commemorative decal for participants.

WOW!
I just called 1-800-462-3342 and they tried to sell me a medical alert system!
When I declined that they tried to sell me a cruise?
Then I got hung up on?
I then went to the Talladega Superspeedway web site and found the problem:
The correct number is 1-877-462-3342.
Then the girl that answered that didn't know anything about our group and had me call the administrative office.
That number is 1-256-362-2261 a great guy named Matt took care of me.

Is anyone from the south attending and driving a wing? I am debating on driving the Swamper up there for a couple days but not sure yet. I might be more motivated if others were caravaning.

Funny how I have to go north to be in the deep south.  :smilielol:

Not sure what the deep south is relative to Alabama, but I'll be heading that way from the Houston, Texas area......

Good point. Sorry about the lack of details. I would have been coming from South Florida, Fort Lauderdale area. However, the Swamper's 727 went up in smoke yesterday, 117 miles away from home and had to be trailered back. Big puff of smoke that lasted about 30 seconds to a minute and now it keeps slipping like crazy out of 3rd gear. Fluid is full, red and clean. Might just be a simple fix like a broken O-ring on a piston, but the last rebuild was over 10 years ago so it is likely just the beginning of bigger problems. Not sure if I will have it done by October with my work schedule.   :-\

I am SO excited that it is 1 month to go to THE event!

I'm just curious - anyone know if we will receive anything in the mail/Email that our money was received and we are good to go, or will there just be a check in or something when we get there?

Thanks, and Wing it!

This price will be the same price online or at the door.

Also you can purchase tickets online up to 1 week before the reunion.  After that it will only be at the show.

Also a heads up, the cars can not leak any fluids.  Cars will be inspected before entering the track, and if they are leaking anything, they will not be allowed out onto the track.

I called the track the other day to look into ticket options for the race.  The main number is useless as they don't know any information regarding the block of tickets for the Aero Warriors group.  She took my info and sent to someone at the track and they would call me back.  The next day Matt called and provided details on the tickets that were available.

The block of tickets is in the Tri-Oval Tower and they are Sat-Sun tickets at $135.  I asked about Sunday only tickets as I would not be going to the track Saturday.  He said they could provide Sunday only tickets for $105 that would be near the "block" of seats.

Matt's number is 256 761 4766 if you want to call and order tickets or get more info.

I am also wondering if anyone has booked at hotel near the Atlanta track for Wednesday night.  Need to get in somewhere and if you guys are already setup I will book in the same.

See you all in a couple of weeks.

OK, maybe a dumb question (consider the source). I went to the Welborn site to register my car and copilot this year. The museum site states that the $130 is for the dinners at the Welborn home. Are there any other "registrations " to complete?

Curious..
I looked at Tim's Museum website and it mentions registration Thursday Night and Friday Morning at the Museum, but then it echoes in another section of registration at their house on Friday at 10am.... What would be the proper way or are they just providing options...

See ya'll there..

Who else is in the Hampton Inn? Just now got a room. Boy am I last minute or what.

I echo Troy's question on registering. I had thought I completed it online, but it appears I did not. So do I need to do it at the museum on Friday morning or at Tims house?

You can register online at any time.  Or you can do it in person for the same price Thurs/Fri.

This price will be the same price online or at the door.

Also you can purchase tickets online up to 1 week before the reunion.  After that it will only be at the show.

Guess this changed.

All I can say is WOW!
I got back home this morning about 1:30 AM, safely with no car issues and still grinning!
This was my third Aero reunion in Talladega and it was by far my favorite.
Kudos to Doug and the rest of the people from the club and to Tim Welborn and the army of people in Alexander City & Talladega. I enjoyed the time (and food) at Tim's house and the museum. The trip up to the track this year was really nice, the pull-off and regroup on the shoulder was a great idea and the police escort/traffic control for us into the track was super.
Overall this was a great event and very well done. I'm already looking forward to 2019!
Personally for me, the best part was that outside of a mysterious electrical gremlin that disappeared 10 minutes after it showed up, my car ran great and did not use any oil or require any repairs!

By the numbers: I put 1,722 miles on the Superturd in those 4 days, burned 348 gallons of gas, averaged about 11.2 MPG and consumed no oil or other parts!
:2thumbs:

We also had a great time and made some new friends.  Still on our way home as we stopped for the night in Indy.  Still working on video from the Atlanta laps, but since we did 28 miles on the track, there is a lot of video.

Here is a link to my video from the wing, we did not move quickly most of the time, but still great to be on the actual track.

I had a GREAT time. It was a blast to have my long-time best bud from as far back at the 10th grade Andy fly out to Houston to join me. I also enjoyed the fellowship with my buddy Dave in Houston and his friend Ron along with Cliff and his Wife Allyn. My Daytona ran great and so proud of it.. I really really really enjoyed those QTP electric dumps. Based on the reactions of the fans there at the race, so did they....

ONLY drawback was, on the way back from the track's activities, the ole' girl started making some loud ticking noises in Sylacauga ( thinking, and hoping, one of the torque converter bolts has backed out and tapping the 727 inspection cover )... Didn't want to take any chances, so I jumped into Dave's Superbird and off we went to get my truck and trailer. An hour later, we were all eating dinner at Ruby Tuesdays.... All good.........

1. The Houston gang
2. Broke down in Sylacauga
3. View from the passenger front seat in Dave's survivor Superbird.. Man, that thing runs so smooth and love that bench seat.
4. Back at the hotel waiting for the rain after a nice dinner.

Speaking of the next one ... when might that be??  Couldn't make this one (taking care of my dad) but would make arrangements to be at the next one!  LOVED the videos, especially Stuarts when he went thru the crowd and got to hit the gas a bit.  I was wondering what mph he hit on that part but I see that his speedo wasn't working.  Stuart -- any estimate?  Looked like a great time and I'm jealous I couldn't make it.

Speed wont work as the viper trans has no place for a cable , my garmin has a GPS  speedo on it we were not suppost to exceed 40 mph so i will plead the 5th but im thinking i heard someone say double that ,  we almost hit a few people  ?  not sure why they were allowed to run out in front of us

An official wanted us 500's to go double file but there wasn't room for 2 of us in turn one and I was a couple feet out in the grass and the pace car takes off so I tried to catch up with it then it stops dead at the back gate.   After Atlanta my car drove great, I changed the alternator and regulator and got voltage back in it.  Hey I had a great time and hope everyone else did to.

Stuart, I know you were avoiding the people but I thought you were purposely letting that blue bird get way in front of you.  At least that's what I'd do.   I'm guessing there were rules not to let the cars creep over the yellow line?  I know at those slow speeds cars really can't get up the banks, but it would be cool just to feel a little bit of it.  Anyway, nice videos Stu.

70EK2 - guess I was wrong - you guys were able to go a little higher.  I didn't watch every lap but that was very cool.  I thought (due to never going to one) that you all would have had to stay in single file.  So that was in the evening with the sun shining, in Stus' videos it looked overcast - did you guys get to go to the track twice?

Yes, you could pull down the pit road.   It did not appear there was any concern with passenger and driver changes.    It was a very free spirited event.

I would say on the back stretch the group of 500's were approaching triple digits for a bit to catch the pace car that had walked off from us during the crowd of people.

Hey I had a great time and hope everyone else did to.
it was great meeting you Al, well meeting your car   :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :icon_smile_big: we almost ran over a few people running out in front of us  , couldnt believe they didnt keep them back

You too Stuart, there was so much going on I didn't get more than a minute or two to talk with anybody. Someone said  it was Sensory Overload and that describes it well.

Great event, looking forward to trying to buy an Aero car I can drive to the event in 2019.  The three cars from Seattle ended up splitting up on the way home, I'll post some pics later on my road trip thread.  Daytona got home Wednesday, I got home in the Bird at 1pm yesterday, and the 500 is almost home after dropping off Sean Machado in Palm Desert.

We got more TV time than we usually get.  Which is none.   Also,  the magazine and social media coverage has FAR exceeded past years.    They also had us on the jumbotron during the track laps.   That has never happened before.   We got to go out later this time which helped.    Who knows,  maybe we can get more air time for 2019.

We used to regularly get 20-30 (sometimes more) wing/aero cars at the MonsterMopar show in St. Louis, on an annual basis.  That's a hard 2-day drive from the great northwest.

I heard from multiple people at Talladega that an attempt could be in the making to revive the MonsterMopar show in the future; but unless/until that happens, the largest events you'll see will likely be the wing car clubs' meets - which move around a bit.  I haven't looked to see where the 2016 meets will be held - perhaps there's one further west this upcoming year?

There is supposed to be an Aero Car Meet at Spring Fling this year in Van Nuys.  Spring Fling is the best Mopar show on the West Coast.

Spring Fling is April 23rd and 24th at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, CA.  LA Area.  Its a good drive down, we do it every year.  Usually go to Fall Fling too.

What did you guys think about the reunion?!  All the parts.  What was good, what could we have done better?  What would you like to see for the future?  We are already putting stuff together for the 50th.  So let me know!

The reunion was GREAT!
But let's start with this one opportunity to make it better:
Take over the SONIC parking lot for the day we are at the museum!
That way ALL the AERO cars can be close together.
Some of the cars were parked along the street and in the strip mall a block away!
The SONIC couldn't handle those of us that went over for lunch as it was.
I waited for over an hour standing/sitting by the drive up menu board for our food!
We would keep them plenty busy with our group.

Plus I wound up with the wrong order at the end of that hour. I got someone else's sandwich.
I like the day at the Talladega Museum we have done in the past. I vote for making it a Thursday thru Sunday event. Thursday roll in and hang at Tims. Friday spend the day at the Welbourne Museum. Saturday at the Talladega museum. Sunday at the track for laps then leave.

Atlanta was Thursday and technically, a separate event.

For the 50th, I would also like to see the event extended by a day to do a display there at the Talladega museum.    The panoramic photo setup is a lot of work, but for this event, it would be worth the effort.
