IMO, pretty cool car - too bad it is such a big basket-case project.

1970 Coronet 500 2dr hardtop 383 4bbl auto gold/gold/white (pretty quiet, sedate) & 15x7" rallyes & F60-15 POLYGLAS GTs.  :coolgleamA:

So, the '70 Dodge Dealer Announcement Shows had the following 2 doors in attendance:

WS27U0G - Coronet R/T 440HP 4bbl auto convertible "SUBLIME" white bucket interior
WP23N0G - Coronet 500 383 4bbl auto hardtop "LIGHT GOLD METALLIC" gold bucket interior
WM23V0G - Super Bee 440HP 3x2bbl 4-spd "TOP BANANA" black bucket interior
not to mention the:
"HEMI ORANGE" Six Pack Charger R/Ts with sunroofs & there had to be another Charger ("XH"-car maybe?) anyone know of any?
"BRIGHT RED" Six Pack Challenger R/T convertibles

wonder what a-bodies made the show  :shruggy: something had to be there wearing "bright blue" and "plum crazy"

Baldwinvette77

so... um.. Whats a factory show car? .. something they used in commercials or?  :shruggy:

6bblgt

Before the model year debut at the dealerships (new cars didn't go on sale 'til mid-September) Chrysler would have regional "DEALER" preview shows for dealer principles & salesmen.
On display at these shows would be cars to "showcase" the latest models, colors and options that would soon be available to the public.

Many of the /6, 318, 4-drs, wagons, A & C-bodies are lost to time - but the most well know versions are:

US - '71 440+6 auto 'Cudas in "curious yellow"
US - '70 440+6 4-spd Challenger R/T convertibles red on red
US - '70 440+6 auto Charger R/Ts "HEMI orange" w/sunroof
CANADA - '71 383 2bbl auto Barracuda convertibles blue on blue
CANADA - '70 440+6 auto 'Cuda convertibles "vitamin C"
CANADA - '71 440 4bbl GTX "tor-red" & "gunmetal"  :icon_smile_cool:

There were multiple identical cars built of each of these to attend each regional show.

I had one of the '69s ..... but it was an "INTRODUCTORY SHOW UNIT" in FORD-speak: "R"-code 428CJ Torino GT

This car was "scheduled" to be built 7/4/68, but wasn't built until 8/9/68 - spec'd out with RWL - POLYGLAS tires - I can't believe Chrysler waited 'til the spring of '69 to offer RWL & on a couple of relatively unknown Super Bee & Road Runner "package cars". :rotz:  They did get the ball rolling for '70 though - with RWL POLYGLAS tires for (just about) EVERYONE!!  :2thumbs:

so... um.. Whats a factory show car? .. something they used in commercials or?  :shruggy:

As far as I know most of these type of Mopar cars were outsourced, or sent to a company like Creative Industries to be painted. Don't know about the 60's ot 70's but I know from doing them today on Chrysler cars that some are called Class A Paint jobs & some Class B. A Class A has to be perfect all around. Class B basic repaint with more clear added to have more room to wet sand & rub paint. Basically, A show car will have a much straighter body & much nicer paint then the usual factory wavy body & orange peely paint. LEON.

tracpack440

Why is the fender tag a different color than the show car tag. The show tag doesn't look like its ever been installed - no screw marks on it and rusty. Real or not Cool car either way.

"SHOW CAR" tag was probably found under the carpet or other similar location - looks to be green dip seal
