Looked like a Mirror after Rubbing. Onto the Trailer & It's gone. LEON.

Beautiful paint job, sir.  The body had to be super straight to spray black and the wet-sanding had the black truly shining like a mirror!

My Charger is also single-stage paint with no clear coat applied. takes a little extra work but ............................. people are amazed that it is so shiny without clear coat.

Congrats on a fine job !!

After spending a few years building concourse cars I was able to recognize the difference between single stage jobs and clear coat. Clear coat has no place in restoration.  :Twocents:

The Body was wavy when I got it, lots of little waves. I blocked it a little to get a little straighter but it's no mint showcar, just a race car. When I was Doing Showcars for Chrysler our company charged Chrysler $50,000.00 for showcar paint as far as I know. And thats on a brand new car with zero milage & no bodywork. How many Musclecar owners want to spend $50k just for paint, Flawless showcar paint. Not many. LEON.

true   , as awesome as over restored solid Base & clear painted cars are  :drool5:  ,   imo they look too false  , not sure if that's the right word , plasticky looking  maybe  not sure even that's the right word  :P

when I started doing body & paint 28 years ago  ,  &  when I first got my charger 2 years later ,  thought  when I repaint my charger going to do it base &  4 coats of clear etc  may be flat it more clear etc etc   :P  , then  started seeing  real good  2k base & clear repaints at shows  , they looked awesome  , but not right  ,  on old time muscle cars   , too modern , ok on modern cars ! :P  hard to explain  . or may be its just what a painter notices    , could tell the difference  :shruggy:    ,  so when I eventually done a nut & bolt resto on mine  ,  used 3 coats of 2k  single stage , over   yellow/ cream hibuild primer ,

sometimes  , with customers cars ,  I use to mix a bit of single stage clear up &  put it in with the paint , for the  last coat , on single stage blacks reds dark blues , use to make it flow out like water , was dependent on the resto  type of   car /job etc  .  no good if you were color sanding  ,  but would almost  be gun finish , providing there was no specks of dirt in the paint  :P & let it air dry over night , as opposed to baking it

I wouldn't spend 50K on an entire car, let alone just the paint and body.  It boggles the mind how far you can take things...

Leon,
You doing paint jobs for side money or eating your living doing them? Not being nosey, I would keep you in mind when we break the Charger down for paint in a few years.

RIDGERACER383

That think looks amazing.... Was the car really straight?.. Did you have to do alot of body work on it to get it straight?

The owner wanted original looking paint with orange peel so I left as much orange peel in as I could but also denib the dirt out. Easier said then done. To get a car super super straight takes much more time & money then most people want to pay. LEON.

Pics from back. LEON.

Finaly got it done last week when I put the flat black Organisol stripes on hood & fenders. It was 71% humidity that day & since I was spraying laquer it seems i was getting some blushing (moisture traped in paint) making hoods black uneven. Anybody want to take a guess at how much a body shop would charge to do this kinda paint job, which includes bare metal blasted undercarriage epoxy primed, bare metal blasted engine compartment, new core support welded in, a week blocking & priming, a week sanding & rubbing, ect, ect. 7 weeks of work total. What would a body shop charge to do all that? LEON.

hemi-hampton

Nobody wants to take a guess on a price for this kind of work? $10k? $15k? $20k? :scratchchin:
