Hi Folks,          22 Feb 2026

I remember an episode of "Dukes of Hazard"where the Charger they were driving was a "Dodge Charger 500" based on the rear window having the 500 Plug in it. Wasn't a regular viewer of the show, just happened to notice the 500 Roof line.

I have no idea what year that was or where I was. Most likely I was in Texas at the time as that's where I lived most of my life.

Did anyone here see that same episode?

Thanks

I was an avid fan of the show but I don't recall that episode. I have most of the series on DVD. If there was a 500 used, it must have been for something very short to have not been noticed.

I guess the producers would have taken any old Chargers to morph into GLs at one stage.
With the abundance of sheet metal from wrecked cars, it would have been easy to swap out the front clip of the 500 and hope the car wasn't filmed from the wrong angle.

I agree.
I remember seeing 1968 models used in the early seasons. Their budget must have been tight because the side markers were still in place and painted over.
Over the years there have been a few articles about the cars they used. The most recent ones claimed that NO Hemi cars were ever used, only ONE car had a 4 speed, NO 1970 models were used due to the different front end design.
I still love the show. I find it to be a lot of fun.

According to the mechanics of the show, no 500's, no Hemi cars, no 1970 model Charger's.

The problem that faced was there was no surplus of front sheetmetal as that was the stuff destroyed first.  They never used 1970 model year Charger's for that reason. At least 1968's front sheetmetal could be adapted.

Hi Kern,          13 Apr 2026

If my memory is working the charger I am referring to was in one scene which was dangerous for the car and may have been a cheap stand in at the time. This was back when the show was being aired on a regular basis. Since I wasn't a regular viewer of the show I had no reason to file the episode in my box of great TV shows.

If I ever run across a complete set of the show DVD's, I'll try to find it. I'll start in the middle and work my way through to the ends. It was in only one scene, that I can recall.

I do have the DVD set but I still don't remember seeing a "500" model.
It may have happened and I missed it. It isn't like I scrutinized the show like I do today. Heck, I see a movie set in the 60s and see a 1970s car and I'll call it out.
