Quote from: 70 sublime on May 06, 2026, 11:55:38 PMHe had sent me some pictures of his brothers 69 Charger that was all fixed up and had it appraised at $200k

People that state what their appraisal value use it like a flex. AV is what it would cost to have that car built by a professional shop and not what the actual market value is. I bought my Dart for $14,000 back in the day. It was appraised at $50,000. When I was forced to sell it, I got Market Value which was only $25,000.

Thanks for being honest, Drache. Too many guys with egos will tell bullshit stories of "what my car is worth".

That's been said but I tend to disagree.  Beauty is timeless and these are rolling art.

The most aesthetic/desireable pre-war cars are still huge money and I would guess it's not a bunch of 100+ year old people buying them.

It's true of what you're saying except one important ingredient left out is when people pay big bucks it's because it comes with a memory of wanting one as a child or having one in your younger years.
Granted the 68/70 Chargers are one of the few American muscle cars still creeping up in value compared to the majority, it's hard to justify spending over 100 grand for a charger when you can buy a Mustang or GTO for half that. I told my wife if the chargers were in the 40,000 market like a lot of muscle cars I would buy one again, but I am not spending over 100 grand.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Most guys here that have had Chargers restored by themselves or by shops know that if you ever sell your car, you generally will never get out of it what you put into it. Unless that is, you've held onto the car for years and the market value has jumped.

The post above was the LAST POST before the forum went down for 3 days.
What the heck is going on? I know the traffic is slow here but is Troy interested in keeping this place going or not?

Even Daytonas struggle to get that kind of money. Good friggin luck getting over $80,000 for a 383 model.

Saw that listed yesterday
I like how it says no GST or luxury tax
Ummm you will have to pay GST to get the ownership moved into your own name so not sure how you can avoid the tax

What is GST? Never heard of it.

Not familiar with Canada other than I used to vacation there in the early 60's and early 70"s. Drove our Daytona there a couple times. Smoked a few highways (I 75 in the UP) going up there and the, I think, the King's Highway in Ontario.

Thought Daytona's were worth Big Bucks??

I was exaggerating. The guys that place a Hemi 4 speed Daytona price on a 383 car are idiots and need to be treated as such.

GST = Goods and services tax

We have had that system in Australia since 2000.
Prior to GST, sales tax was set at different rates, depending on what was being bought or sold.
A flat 10% GST now applies to almost everything, making it (imo) a fairer and easier to understand system than we had in the past.
Gotta love a '69

Yeah, because governments are "entitled" to skim money from citizens to fund all their bullshit programs.

The highway I mentioned as the King's Highway is partially correct. The actual highway is the "Chapleau Highway" a part of the King's Highway system in Canada.

Even did some work on Highway 17 (the Chapleau) which wasn't condoned by the authorities in Ontario. The Hwy 17 work crew parked their Dozers for the evening, safety switches positioned to keep folks from starting them. I. being an electrical engineer defeated their "safety systems" and started their dozers then commenced moving dirt for about half an hour. We then "locked up" the dozers and went back to our camp site.

The crew running the show was encamped 30 or so miles north on highway 17. They heard their dozers running and headed south to try an catch the arrogant jerks messing with their toys. By the time they had arrived we were safely back in our camp and no one ratted us out. That took place about 1973 or 1974, they were the only years I drove the Daytona to Canada.

Sure had fun with that car. One of those trips up is when I had the Daytona up to 140 when my chase car sent a coded message on our CB system letting me know there was heat on the way.

"All's well that ended well!"
