Wiper motor 2 speed to 3 speed

Is it possible to make the 3 speed motor work as a 2 speed?

Im trying to be cheap as possible on this since wipers hardly get used and the only reason for the switch is to make for my 871 blower because on a 2 speed it sticks straight up.

Based on my searches I didn't want to buy a new swich and arm connection etc...totally nearly 200 bucks and then still need a 3 speed wiper that ranges from 80 bucks all the way up to 285....gheeez.....

If clearance is the only part of that you are worried about then just buy the three speed wiper motor.  It is the mist expensive part of the equation but it is the only part you really need and they are two physically different units so in order to take advantage of the shorter housing you will have to actually have it.  If you have come this far with a blown motor you might as well go the distance.

There has to be reasons why so many parts are different between the two. These companies make parts universal whenever possible. I suspect that is why so many parts are indeed different. In order to universalize the motors, they had to create different sized arms that connect to the linkages due to rotation differences between motors.

I would just bite the bullet. Maybe look into having the stock one rebuilt.

Ghoste

The stock one will interfere with the blower, you will have to actually change it to a three speed.

he will need the 3spd switch also, plus the crank arm that is attached to the wiper motor....and also the wiring from switch to wiper motor

yeah I googled it and that freaking crank arm is 100 bucks, 3 speed 100 bucks, WTF.....

that's why I was curious if I make the 3 speed adapt somehow to my 2 speed switch to work....I do drive in the rain so its needed for me personally.

ok, have read the topic quick, without detail, but my thoughts

I changed from 2 to 3 speeds ( actually variable ) its pretty much easy to do, just about parts changeand not really expensive. Need motor, main linkage, motor crank and switch. Aside the harness which actually for 3 speeds is attached but 2 speeds is extra

another feature for 2 speeds is the parking off cam diff from 3 speeds... which is THE HARDEST AND EXPENSIVE PART to find in decent conditions. New cam assembly is out out of any logic on price. ACTUALLY INSANE

so if talking about the change because the motor position disturb any other assembly  that you already are making the harder parts which is crank assembly and motor. Rest are way easier and cheap ( motor, main linkage, harness and switch ) Of course getting from a donor makes easier and cheaper.

Note... usually 2 speeds part are way cheaper than 3 speeds because everybody makes that change ( like I did )

I have collected LOT OF INFO about this, and everything is posted here. Being outside USA and all venezuelan cars were just 2 speeds was very important to me get the right parts in just once try to change to 3 speeds. So i made a full research about this

I hope no images are lost because some of the threads are old

Ok, the topic I posted is about 3rd gens. I was talking about that because your nickname. I'm noticing thats not a 3rd gen but a second, so the linkage is quite diff than I exposed, but still needs to be changed though. I don't have the PNs for it

AS FAR I RECALL ( I got a kit to refresh the motor I got ) the 3 speeds motor can be indexed to the correct body to be mounted on!! Just relocating the top cover! I don't have the instructions sheet with me right now, but Thats what I recall right now

this kind of motor got a "tower" on cap, diff than some earliers, but works the same.

I'm trying to find the instruction sheet on line.

These motors can be refreshened really easy, some clean and paint and done.

( saving on motor you can get the money for the switch and linkage )

isn't this switch the same electrical and housing, but just the rocker pieze diff ? is so, you could change it for the one on your 2 speeds switch

I bought a rallye dash 3 speed switch for $50 bucks last night, the proper motor arm for $20 and a working motor for $127.50. Just happened to get lucky and catch the motor auction with 12 minutes to go and the arm an hour. Switch was buy it now or best offer.
