I changed out my turn signal switch and dash harness in my 70, as the wires were bad and i had no brake lights, nothing else wrong besides that.  I was told my turn signal switch may affect my brakes so i changed it.  now i hooked the battery up and with everything with the key turned off my rear turn signals flash, hazards are not on. then i try to use my turn signals, and they are reversed?  any thoughts on my problem?   this sucks/

Is your car pure 1970 wiring ? (since you have a 69 front end )

thats my old car, all 70 yes, new dash harness and turn signal harness

I was looking through some online pics, and they show the column should have a ground strap?  I currently do not have one, but where does it connect to, and is it necessary?

Nacho-RT74

Ground strap has nothing to do with turning signal switch ( more than reinforce the horn switch function)

Wondering where you found the replacement for your 70? They are not being reproed. A friend of mine got a generic replacement locally for his 73 and found couple of wires reversed on assembly.

I bought it through mega parts as a recommendation from a  thread on here, it seem to go in ok. I had to file open up the hazard switch just a hair, but seemed to go in after that ok. iam just stumped right now, worked on it for a day and a half straight, and iam no better off than i was to begin with,

Nacho-RT74

Ok, do you have a pic of the piece you bought? Its with yellow plastic and not correct wiring colors like this?

( wouldn't be Megaparts fault, it can be a random wrongly assembly piece )

Really, 70 turning switches ar not really being reproed unless is a new release. The only pieces availables as far I know are laters what would need to trim te hazzard knob to fit on a 70 column

This is the one I put in my 70 Charger a couple years ago and it worked fine ( think I had to file down the 4 way switch also)

Has your car ever worked right since you owned it ?

The turn signals do go through the brake pedal switch also so they all have to work together

A poor ground someplace in the light harness will make things act odd also

thats the one I installed. the colors are different from the original. but megaparts listed it would work in a 70.  do you know of one that will actually work?  everything seemed to be fine, before hand, except the hazzard switch was stuck so i could never use hazzards and my brake lights didnt work.  now its worse than before.

Worked fine in my car first try

My brake lights only half worked and turn signals did not work is why I changed mine

Iam missing something simple, i know it.

Try running a ground wire direct from your tail light housings to a known good ground, even try a long piece of wire from the housing directly to the neg battery terminal first.

Iam gonna try more this weekend on it, the cam in in now isnt working right now anyways,  according to year one the reproducitons come with a cornering lamp lead which i can just ignore and use the rest.  do you all agree with that?

Nacho-RT74

Yes that's true

About the yellow switch, as mentioned, my friend got turned around some wires. Check the pic and the wires riveted in your switch matches the pic. On my friend assembly, white and blue were turned around on rivets.

You can check the plug matches too with pic

Ok one quick question, before I tear this column apart tomorrow,  I know this new switch has the cornering light harness, but will it still work because the green and brown wires are in different positions on the switch but still routed the  same down the harness? make sense? :shruggy:

I couldnt get it to post any larger for some reason.  The turn signal switch worked, Iam getting pretty quick at changing them now.  Brakes work and wiring seems good too.  Not sure what fixed it since I replaced everything electrical component the brake circuit runs through. Lol. I only care that its fixed. thanks for everyones advice.
