Anybody got a lead on ( completely dead) flat black for doing a the interior top of a  dash panel ?  I have tried 3 different brands of spray cans and all were crap for one reason or other so I am looking for spray gun  applied material.

Hey Al.  I just finished rebuilding my dash. I used SEM paint for the dash. I'll get the number for you tomorrow.

I tried at least 6 different paints. Duplicolor Trim, CTP700000 was the closest to my original dash. Now that it's done and looking through the windshield, it looks identical to my original 'Bird dash as well, so I think I got it right.  :yesnod:

The SEM paint I used is Trim black, #39144. Not sure if it's the flattest

Thanks Brian, What I am hoping for is something that doesn't glare or reflect to much when the sun is coming directly through the windshield.

If you want something closer to original I used a PPG paint called black jewel suede. Its expensive but its almost dead nuts on to the original.

Out of a spray can try Krylon's Ultra Flat Black. Doesn't really get any duller than that stuff. Dries fast though so you need to work quick.

If you want something out of a gun and are willing to try 2-stage try PPG's Flex-n-Flat clear. Straight out it's really flat, but you can adjust the gloss by adding PPG's regular clear to it. But you won't get texture as the original.

Anyone have a shot of what this "texture" is that everyone seems to reference??

Both my Bee and Bird have / had (until I redid the Bee) their original dash paint (up where the VIN tag goes) and neither were "textured".  :shruggy:

Wayne, I know this is an old thread, but I've been doing some research on this topic for my wife's '70 Runner. I ran across this pic of a VIN tag on ebay that, if you look closely, shows the fine texture of the dash as opposed to the smooth finish of the VIN tag. Nice FC7 Charger if I may add! Anyway, if anyone else stumbles onto this thread, hopefully this helps!

Correct the dash has a textured finish I'm doing mine at the moment all I've done is give it a light scuff with a scouring pad as mines in good condition so I've retained the texture but I'm not sure on what paint I'm going to use

I had the dash in my '68 Plymouth powder coated with a textured finish.  I then topcoated in blue (as it was originally) with Dupont/Axalta interior paint.
