I'm in the progress of repainting the engine compartment of my 70 Charger 500, I have now removed the engine, bake lines and wiring. how do I remove the wiper motor? will I be able to do it from the engine compartment or do I need to remove the dash?

Nacho-RT74

get down the dash frame, unlink the wiper linkage from the motor crank ( clip retainer ) or the crank itself from motor shaft ( 7/16" flanged nut ), then remove the 3 nuts from engine bay side... done

So I can get to it by crawling up under the dash without removing the dash or any of the structures of the dash it self?

M5Ivan

I removed my wiper motor while my heater/ac box was out. I'd imagine it's much more difficult to access with it in place, but I'm sure it can be done.  No need to remove the dash for sure to access it.

I had my instrument cluster out when I did mine. I'm not sure how easy it is to do with that still in place but i think it can be done.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Might be easier if the radio was out if everything else is all together

Managed to remove the wiper motor from the engine compartment, little tricky to get the flangenut off but it worked :2thumbs:

Hey guys!

I also want to remove my wiper motor from my 73 Charger SE

Is the so called "flangenut" the thing in the lower red square?

Do I just need to pry it off or whats the trick?

Or is it better reach from the inside? BTW My instrument cluster is already out but whole dash is still not removed.

I thought I just ask before I break something....

AND another question is: Do I have a 2speed or a 3speed wiper motor? It has a 4 prong connector with 4 wires so I assume it is a 3speed motor? Can anybody confirm me this please?

Thanks in advance

nut... the top square... the bottom one is a plastic bushing.

Motor will came out without crank

Both 2 and 3 speeds use same wiring and conector. Just the way how the power is applied by the switch ( 2 or 3 speeds ) through these wires changes.

2 speeds is a black big motor with rotor/armature vertically mounted to firewall/cowl panel

3 speeds uses to be goldish and rotor /armature is installed horizontally ( parallel to firewall )

2 speeds get and extra intermediate piece on the crank so called "parking cam" assembly which is will become to be a headache to lot of members since there is no replacements available anymore.

3 speeds are with parking setup built into the motor so linkages attachs direct to the crank ( the one pictured is 3 speeds )

There is no access to the assembly from the cab side on 3rd gens. All what you have is what you see. And is actually pretty much easier than earliers.

Hey Nacho!

Here is a pic from my wiper motor. Sorry for the bad quality.

So I assume then it is a 3-speed motor as it is horizontally mounted to the firewall right?

And concerning the nut... This means I just can untighten it with my ratched or so called nut runner correct?

Just don't want to break something off.

Thanks

Nacho-RT74

Yes, 3 speeds.

Yes the nut, is just untighten... a wrench will make it. Wrench with closed end  is easier. Is not really hard tight.

Just want to inform you that I was able to pull the wiper motor....

Next step is to check if it is working...

But thanks for this!
