couple of years ago my ex-GF's dad gave me as a present an old Coleman 243-B gasoline lantern in very nice conditions... well the valve is stuck, so need some mantenience ( will work on that ). I have being searching WHAT mantle should be using this model without success. There are couple could be used but none of them is listed on package to the 243B ( or maybe 243 or 242 which seems to be pretty much the same lantern ). If somebody have this info around, will be great

this lanter is the perfect match to my Optimus 111B stove, both white gasoline and both classic vintage pieces

That's the lantern, just I have seen several original Coleman mantles and none of them list the 243 unit application on their list

It seems the 500CP posted on that board could be the generic substitute for the original 99 Coleman

Yikes Nacho. I had no idea there were so many. I'm better understanding your electrical thoroughness.  :yesnod:

Nacho-RT74

LOL

I was aware they were several, but didn't know they were that many either LOL

well I think after an operativity mantenience and some clean up ( not finish mantenience or refinish job ), I'm ready for a camping.

Soon to get mantles and NOS lanter generator I found locally in US$0.5. So far so goo I give it pump and get air coming from the mantle provision without any visible/audible leak around.

The stove has being already tested long time ago.

Someday will work on a finish restoration

reading the faded original box decal, found this lantern is 250CP. Asking to a mantles seller told me the 99A101T mantle ( which seems to be the correct mantle for this lantern ) is rated on 350CP and is U shaped, not round... so at the end got these mantles:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Dozen-300-400CP-U-SHAPED-MANTLES-Petromax-Anchor-Coleman-LOW-PRICE-AVE/291844227358?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

the 500CP mantle used on that board seems to be overrated then

and here is the NOS generator soon to be delivered... locally found

Keep it up Nacho, and we'll have to start renting you out to movie sets. (But I did convert my father's Coleman grill case into an eyepiece case for our binoscope.) Nice work, and next time I'm in need of arcana you'll be the 1st. We're big campers too--just drove 10 hours to buy a used canoe, cuz it's the journey, eh? And who'd guess there's such a science to mantles?

I used to go to the mountain to camp every weekend... not anymore since maybe 8-10 years ago.

This is a National park mountain I have just walking out by 25 minutes from home. The highest peak is at 2765 meters over the sea level

we can see the sea on the other side:

I still need to get a new bag pack and sleeping bag... But I'm out of funds for that. Someday will get back to my old hobby

I can only imagine the dark skies there. S.A. is probably our next stop, most likely Peru for a retreat/healing center I found there that isn't a gringo new-age money-making scheme. Mother Aya isn't too keen on such, and I want my wife to experience the power of the land and the wisdom of the plants, before it's all gone. I envy you and your year-round surf. I can't go in the water here w/o at least a 3/2 suit and the waves suck. Wrong coast. Ah, to be truly civilized... :yesnod: You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for your contributions.

You can try the Gran Sabana region and Canaima National park in Venezuela someday in the future. Canaima got the highest water fall in the world and both still keep the original nature from the prehistorical ages. Several movies have being filmed &/or inspired on those National Parks ( Anaconda, Up, Jurassic Park and some others )

well... it is working. Made a light rubbing compound job on it to get it a bit shiney too.

New generator, new repro Coleman decal, and added the Coleman spark ignitor

everything is good, BUT the spark ignitor spring ( to the flint agaings the spark wheel ) didn't hold the lantern heat and lost the tension. After barelly 5 or 6 times I turned on the lantern while I was making mantenience to every component and barelly kept it on for an hour ( in total ) doesn't produce spark anymore... DAMN!!! is just about the spring tension over the flint. Dissasembing and stretching the spring gets back to life, but for short time. Spring is already damaged by the heat.
