Went for a ride and my radio didn't have my pre sets , thought it strange. Was going to get a volt meter for when I would do the amp gauge mod , radio would go out for a couple seconds every once in a while , then realized it was when I put on the brakes or use the turn signals. Came back home and shut it off , tried to turn the power on again and nothing , no console lights nothing. Play with the wires at the bulkhead and got power , tried to start and nothing again. Used a mirror to see console lights and when I played with the loom for the amp I got power , jiggle it some more and they went out. Took it apart and the bulkhead and loom connector were melted. I've been meaning to do the switch but the old 'it's working now' mentality took over. I've heard horror stories about stuff getting fried. Do it NOW!

As a temp measure just disconnect wires from alt. Gage and hook them together, that will solve problem. Long term is do the volt meter mod....I saw you already researched that.

like the horror stories, they are horror and terrifying for those what believes everything LOL. Yes they are dangerous if you never plan on check and mantenience after 50 years of service. Time for that and chech for easy upgrades without modify how the original system works. Some mistakes made by MaMopar from factory on the correct alt output needed, plus years of wrong power splices to feed accesories.

Do you ride on old 50 tires too? Or bushings ? ;)
